Each year, we directly engage approximately 1500 Thurston County residents of all ages in relationships-based programming centered on growing and preparing good food. We primarily work with young people, families with low incomes, students, seniors experiencing hunger, tribal communities, and veterans, active duty service members, and their families. Visit\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.goodgrub.org\/\" data-uw-rm-brl=\"PR\" data-uw-original-href=\"http:\/\/www.goodgrub.org\">goodgrub.org<\/a>\u00a0for more information.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Position Description<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One Architect will serve for one year, learning directly from GRuB\u2019s Co-Executive Directors, Farm Team, staff, and regional partners while supporting the implementation and teaching of climate-resilient agricultural practices on GRuB\u2019s 3-acre educational farm in Olympia, Washington. This position is designed as a\u00a0training and leadership development pathway\u00a0for individuals from overburdened or vulnerable communities interested in regenerative agriculture, climate resilience, and community education. This position is funded through the Washington Climate Corps Network, and the Architect will participate in Network activities.<\/p>\n<p>Through hands-on farm work, mentorship, and community engagement, the Architect will gain skills in regenerative farming, climate mitigation strategies, and public education, while helping GRuB expand water conservation, soil carbon storage, biodiversity, and climate awareness among gardeners, farmers, and the broader community.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Learning Goals or Deliverables<\/strong><br \/>Learning goals and deliverables will be co-developed with the Architect and may include:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Skills in climate-resilient and regenerative agricultural practices<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul role=\"list\">\n<li>Establishing and maintaining climate-resilient perennial systems<\/li>\n<li>Dry farming, drought-tolerant crop production, and rainwater harvesting<\/li>\n<li>Soil carbon\u2013building practices, including biochar, composting, cover crops, hugelkultur, and no-till methods<\/li>\n<li>Growing culturally relevant, drought-resistant crops<\/li>\n<li>Implementing irrigation-reduction strategies and tracking water use and soil health<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Community Engagement<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul role=\"list\">\n<li>Co-leading at least five hands-on workshops for low-income gardeners and underserved farmers<\/li>\n<li>Supporting farm-based learning experiences for approximately 1,500 community members annually<\/li>\n<li>Storytelling and public communication about climate-resilient agriculture<\/li>\n<li>Developing outreach materials, signage, and website content<\/li>\n<li>Engaging community partners in project planning and outreach<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Benefits and Support \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul role=\"list\">\n<li>A personalized learning and training plan<\/li>\n<li>Hands-on training in regenerative and climate-resilient agriculture<\/li>\n<li>Mentorship from experienced farm staff, program staff, and regional technical partners<\/li>\n<li>Access to GRuB trainings and professional development opportunities<\/li>\n<li>Opportunities to enroll in external learning programs (as funding allows)<\/li>\n<li>Networking with regional food system and climate partners<\/li>\n<li>Participate in service-learning and networking events coordinated by WA Climate Corps Network<\/li>\n<li>Access to fresh vegetables grown on the GRuB Farm (seasonally)<\/li>\n<li>Educational stipend of up to $31,500 annually<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This combination of training and experience prepares the Architect for green career pathways such as Farm Manager, Agronomist, Agricultural Educator, or Climate-Resilient Agriculture Consultant.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Position Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul role=\"list\">\n<li>Participate in onboarding and co-create an individualized learning and training plan with GRuB staff<\/li>\n<li>Assist with farm planning in coordination with the Farm Team and NRCS technical advisors<\/li>\n<li>Support implementation of regenerative and climate-resilient practices on the GRuB Farm<\/li>\n<li>Assist with planting, maintenance, harvesting, and seasonal farm operations<\/li>\n<li>Co-plan and co-facilitate a minimum of five community workshops annually<\/li>\n<li>Support service-learning events and general public farm visits<\/li>\n<li>Track and document outcomes related to water conservation, soil health, and crop diversity<\/li>\n<li>Participate in storytelling, reflection, and synthesis of learning<\/li>\n<li>Assist with developing signage, outreach materials, and web content<\/li>\n<li>Support presentations to community groups, networks, and public partners<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to planning for future farm operations and community education efforts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Minimum Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul role=\"list\">\n<li>Qualifications determined by the Washington Climate Corps Network:<br \/>\n<ul role=\"list\">\n<li>Be between 17 \u2013 31 years old; OR\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>A U.S. military veteran; OR\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Individuals with physical or sensory disabilities; OR<\/li>\n<li>Come from a vulnerable population in an overburdened community.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Interest in regenerative agriculture, climate resilience, food systems, or environmental justice<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to learn through hands-on farm work and community engagement<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community members<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to working with low-income, BIPOC, immigrant, refugee, and veteran communities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Preferred Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul role=\"list\">\n<li>Previous experience with gardening, farming, or community education (formal or informal)<\/li>\n<li>Interest in public speaking, storytelling, or community outreach<\/li>\n<li>Multilingual skills or experience working in multicultural settings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Physical Demands and Working Conditions\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Farm work will require periods of physical activity involving standing, walking, bending, and moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds), including significant work time outdoors on our farm and programming sites.
