The intern will receive a $7,500 stipend payment to defray living expenses. This internship will be remote and include regular zoom meetings and conference calls. The position\u2019s responsibilities include providing coastal management policy research support to Surfrider\u2019s Coasts and Climate Initiative. The intern will be supervised under the direction of Surfrider\u2019s Sr. Manager, Coasts and Climate Initiative.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Contribute to Surfrider\u2019s annual assessment of state coastal resilience policies:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Primary responsibilities include: conduct policy, law and legislative research and analysis on state laws, rules, and regulations related to sea level rise planning, coastal hazards, development, sediment management, and coastal armoring.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Produce written content for Surfrider\u2019s Coastal Blog and other communication platforms on climate change and coastal policy issues.<\/li>\n<li>Assist Surfrider staff in the development of policy documents, comment letters, and verbal testimony.<\/li>\n<li>Assist in the development of state directed coastal policy memos.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Desired Qualifications:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A passion to address climate change and its impacts on U.S. coasts.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of local, state, and national coastal and ocean policy with an emphasis on the Coastal Zone Management Act.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Experience conducting thorough research projects, literature reviews, and policy analysis.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to translate complex policy and law findings into common language.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work independently.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Proficient with Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Zoom.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Currently enrolled in a graduate program focused on coastal policy or environmental management.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The intern&#8217;s completion of the internship must result in academic credit.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Start Time:<\/strong> June 2026 <br \/><strong>Duration<\/strong>: Flexible, 10 weeks minimum <br \/><strong>Stipend:<\/strong> $7,500<br \/><strong>Location:<\/strong> Remote, in the United States only<\/p>\n<p><strong>JEDI COMMITMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Surfrider Foundation is committed to fostering a just, equitable, diverse and inclusive organization for all people who protect and enjoy the world\u2019s ocean, waves, and beaches.
