ACC welcomes national\u00a0applicants, but\u00a0also emphasizes the engagement of local individuals who represent the communities in which they serve.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Position Summary:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Invasive Plant Management Individual Placement\u00a0is based in Washington, D.C.\u00a0working\u00a0directly with\u00a0the\u00a0National Capital Region of the\u00a0National Park Service.\u00a0This 10-month AmeriCorps position will serve\u00a0as\u00a0a\u00a0member of the\u00a0Invasive Plant Management Team (IPMT), focusing\u00a0on control of invasive plant species using mechanical and chemical control methods which include but\u00a0are not limited to herbicide application via backpack sprayers and gas operated tank sprayers, chainsaws, brush cutters, hand saws, pruners and loppers.\u00a0In addition, the IPs will be trained\u00a0on\u00a0overall resource management, encouraged to attend NPS-sponsored\u00a0trainings, and to take part in the activities of other resource programs. While this position is primarily field-based there may be some office-based responsibilities involving the use of GIS and paper and electronic files to conduct invasive plant ranking, evaluate tools for mobile data collection, collect data and\/or perform data analysis, contribute to the development of reports, and assist in the development of communication materials.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During their terms,\u00a0Interns will receive training\u00a0and certifications to be able to\u00a0identify\u00a0and treat a variety of invasive plant\u00a0species. This position is heavily\u00a0field based\u00a0and involves frequent travel to\u00a0parks in the capital region\u00a0and\u00a0daily physical activity.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Housing is\u00a0NOT\u00a0provided for this position.\u00a0We are seeking candidates who are current residents of Washington, D.C. or\u00a0surrounding\u00a0metro\u00a0area.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Benefits<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$680\/week living stipend, paid bi-weekly\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>$5,176.50\u00a0AmeriCorps Segal Education Award upon successful completion of\u00a01200 hour\u00a0service term\u00a0(award\u00a0amount varies\u00a0based on\u00a0length of\u00a0commitment\u00a0and\u00a0can be used for paying off federal student loans or paying tuition for a Title IV accredited college)\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>$120\u00a0reimbursement for work boots with receipt, $100\u00a0for local ID guides<\/li>\n<li>Option\u00a0to enroll in health,\u00a0vision\u00a0and dental insurance<\/li>\n<li>Eligibility for the Public Land Corps Hiring Authority upon successful completion \u2013 noncompetitive hiring status for two years when applying for federal positions.<\/li>\n<li>Federal student loan forbearance\u00a0and interest payoff<\/li>\n<li>Member Assistance Program\u2013 3 free sessions of support with a counseling or work-life balance specialist\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Additional\u00a0subject-specific\u00a0certifications and\u00a0trainings\u00a0may be offered (Chainsaw\u00a0training, pesticides,\u00a0etc)<\/li>\n<li>Depending upon the academic\u00a0institution and program, positions may\u00a0fulfill internship requirements\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Professional development opportunities (mentorship, resume support, alumni\u00a0listserv, etc.) and exposure to natural resource career paths\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>General Qualifications:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To qualify for this AmeriCorps position, you must be between the ages of 21 and 30, and a US citizen that has received a high school diploma or GED. All offers of employment are conditional upon completion of an acceptable check of the National Sex Offender Public Registry and federal criminal background check.
