If you love working in the outdoors, appreciate a remote natural environment, have good forest management skills, a working knowledge of timber harvesting methods, and enjoy being a part of a high-functioning team, then this job might be for you.\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>\n<h2>Duties<\/h2>\n<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work within the South Puget Sound Region Commercial Thinning Project (PI 986). \u00a0Coordinate with Region staff in the following areas:\n<ul>\n<li>Right-of-Way staff to ensure legal access to the project areas<\/li>\n<li>Title and Records staff for records on the legal status of the project areas<\/li>\n<li>Survey staff to ensure completion of surveys<\/li>\n<li>Earth Sciences staff for geological assessments<\/li>\n<li>Cultural Resources staff for completion of assessments<\/li>\n<li>Product sales staff for the completion of the timber cruise and appraisal<\/li>\n<li>Engineering staff for the completion of road plans<\/li>\n<li>Public Use and Recreation staff for public access assessments<\/li>\n<li>And other programs and specialist staff as needed<\/li>\n<li>Engineering staff and contractors on road construction and\/or maintenance activities related to timber sales to ensure projects adhere to all rules and regulations<\/li>\n<li>Private landowners\/road easement holders on timber sale and road maintenance activities<\/li>\n<li>Region Product Sales Staff on contract execution, billings, payments, and contract completion<\/li>\n<li>The proprietary lands specialist\u2019s staff when problems arise during harvest or post-harvest to ensure management requirements have been satisfied<br \/><br \/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Assist in Variable Density Thinning (VDT) timber sale design, layout, and compliance to meet Riparian Forest Desired Future Conditions and NSO habitat enhancement objectives.\n<ul>\n<li>Utilization of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and video to demonstrate the progress of Thinning Proviso objectives.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Assist with the Next Best MoRF habitat survey. Assist with the development of high high-quality NSO habitat project.<\/li>\n<li>Meet regularly with the assistant region biologist to determine how to help each other facilitate Thinning Proviso objectives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>\n<h2>Qualifications<\/h2>\n<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p><strong>Required Qualifications:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An associate degree in forest management or a related natural resource field;<br id=\"isPasted\" \/>OR a combination of equivalent education and\/or experience.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of general forest management theory (timber management planning, silviculture, appraisal techniques, timber sales, contract preparation and administration, forest fire prevention and suppression, logging and forest road construction, reforestation methods, public relations, statistical analysis).<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of basic mensuration, forest biology, and silviculture.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with the following computer programs: MS Word, MS Excel, and an aptitude for learning new software programs.<\/li>\n<li>Experience in navigating using maps, aerial photos, a compass, orthos, a clinometer, radio, laser rangefinder, GPS, and a chain.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrates the ability to identify, resolve, or mitigate observed safety concerns.<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.<\/li>\n<li>Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and public records retention and requests are followed.<\/li>\n<li>DNR Core Competencies:\n<ul>\n<li>Personal Accountability<\/li>\n<li>Value Others<\/li>\n<li>Compassionate Communication<\/li>\n<li>Inspire Others<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to Excellence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<strong>Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The position works from an assigned duty station. A majority (70%) of the work is performed in isolated, unimproved natural forestry settings. The individual must be able to traverse uneven terrain in all weather conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Position requires a large majority (70%) of time in the field and traveling between sites in the work unit. Occasional travel out of the work area is required.<\/li>\n<li>A valid, unrestricted driver\u2019s license and two years of driving experience. This position requires driving as an essential function.
