Through partnerships with landowners, agencies, and community groups, MCWC advances habitat restoration, education, and advocacy in a non-regulatory, inclusive way. Our partners include Lincoln SWCD, USFS, USFWS, ODFW, BLM, The Wetlands Conservancy, Bird Alliance of Oregon, McKenzie River Trust, and Lincoln County.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b>Position Overview<\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The Communications and Outreach Specialist plays a key role in promoting MCWC\u2019s mission, programs, and events through clear, accessible, and engaging public-facing communications. This is a hands-on, in-person position that involves graphic design, website updates, event coordination, volunteer engagement, and community outreach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The ideal candidate is creative, self-motivated, a team player, and enjoys building relationships with partners and the public. A strong aptitude for design and communication is essential. While background knowledge in watershed restoration is helpful, it is not required, interest in conservation and a willingness to learn are most important.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b>Core Responsibilities<\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b>Outreach &amp; Volunteer\/Member Engagement (Approx. 40%)<\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u2022 Coordinate logistics and speakers for monthly community and quarterly basin meetings.<br \/>\u2022 Recruit, schedule, and support volunteers for restoration work parties, community events, nursery activities, and tours.<br \/>\u2022 Manage member and volunteer information and track participation<br \/>\u2022 Represent MCWC at tabling events to build visibility and community support.<br \/>\u2022 Help organize community outreach events and meetings<br \/>\u2022 Seek opportunities to engage specific sectors of community<br \/>\u2022 Assist with event planning and fundraising activities.<br \/>\u2022 Create outreach materials (newsletters, annual report, flyers, social media posts).<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b>Communications &amp; Public Relations (Approx. 40%)<\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u2022 Design and develop visually cohesive and accessible public-facing materials (digital and print) using platforms like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.<br \/>\u2022 Write and distribute press releases, newsletters, and updates via Mailchimp and other platforms.<br \/>\u2022 Regularly update and manage MCWC\u2019s website (currently hosted on Squarespace or similar).<br \/>\u2022 Manage social media content and strategy (Facebook, Instagram, etc.).<br \/>\u2022 Engage with higher education to promote MCWC mission and restoration<br \/>\u2022 Provide support at public events and help host or MC presentations (some public speaking required).<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b>Administrative Support (Approx. 20%)<\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u2022 Maintain organized digital and physical records related to outreach, volunteers, and event planning.<br \/>\u2022 Respond to public inquiries via phone, email, and in person.<br \/>\u2022 Coordinate with fiscal provider for check printing and invoice processing.<br \/>\u2022 Monitor and retrieve mail from PO box; prepare materials for distribution.<br \/>\u2022 Maintain supply of printed outreach materials.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b>Required Qualifications<\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u2022 Experience designing professional, cohesive outreach materials.<br \/>\u2022 Proficiency with design tools such as Canva, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator<br \/>\u2022 Proficiency with tools such as Mailchimp, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and Zoom.<br \/>\u2022 Excellent written and verbal communication skills.<br \/>\u2022 Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.<br \/>\u2022 Self-starter who can manage time, meet deadlines, and work independently or as part of a team.<br \/>\u2022 Valid Oregon driver\u2019s license (or ability to obtain), reliable personal transportation, and current auto insurance. A personal vehicle will be used regularly for work.<br \/>\u2022 Availability to work some evenings and weekends.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b>Preferred Qualifications<\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u2022 Bachelor\u2019s degree or equivalent experience in communications, journalism, environmental education, or a related field.<br \/>\u2022 Experience with volunteer coordination or community organizing.<br \/>\u2022 Comfort with public speaking and engaging diverse community groups.<br \/>\u2022 Basic understanding of GIS or experience with ArcGIS (training can be provided).<br \/>\u2022 Experience maintaining and updating websites (Squarespace, WordPress, etc.).<br \/>\u2022 Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b>Supervision &amp; Team Structure<\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The Specialist reports to the Executive Director and works closely with other MCWC staff and Board members. Fiscal responsibilities are supported by a third-party Fiscal Provider.
