The Research Associate Program at GBI, in cooperation with NPS at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area is recruiting a Restoration Technician to participate in restoration projects.<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
Work will primarily include natural resource survey, recording, and monitoring associated with vegetation and landscape restoration projects.<\/span><\/p>\n*Please note: This position is currently pending funding approval*<\/em><\/p>\nPrimary Responsibilities:<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n\n- Assist natural resources staff to plan and complete natural resource field work;<\/span><\/li>\n
- Assist vegetation management, biological surveys, invasive plant control management, habitat, restoration, grazing management, and wildlife management;<\/span><\/li>\n
- Complete written trip reports;<\/span><\/li>\n
- Contribute to written technical natural resource reports;<\/span><\/li>\n
- Invasive species mapping and treatment, including the use of herbicide.\u00a0 Must obtain state issued pesticide applicator license; and<\/span><\/li>\n
- Work in the park\u2019s greenhouse which includes monitoring, watering, planting, maintaining, and seed collection.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

- Full time (40 hours\/week); and<\/span><\/li>\n

Location:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\nEncompassing over 1.25 million acres and tucked among the red-rock canyons and mesas on the Colorado Plateau, Glen Canyon\u2019s unique desert region is characterized by expansive areas of exposed and uplifted rocks. Glen Canyon offers unparalleled opportunities for water-based & backcountry recreation. The recreation area stretches for hundreds of miles from Lees Ferry in Arizona to the Orange Cliffs of southern Utah, encompassing scenic vistas, geologic wonders, and a vast panorama of human history. Project work will be conducted in the Lees Ferry region.<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
Field conditions are typical for the high deserts. They can include hot, arid days with high exposure to the sun, as well as cold, winter weather. Spring weather is highly variable and unpredictable with extended periods of winds. Fall weather is usually mild.<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
