This will involve field work on boats in lakes around the Region and in Puget Sound and on foot or in boats in rivers\/streams around the Region. This research is related to food web dynamics and artificial light affects on fish.<br \/><br \/>The incumbent will assist in the collection of samples for analyses within the lab on age and growth, fish diets, stable isotopes, etc. The incumbent will also assist in performing experiments in a wet lab facility requiring some animal husbandry and running predator prey reactions and bioenergetics trials.<\/p>\n<p><br \/><strong>The following experience and skills are highly desirable:<\/strong><br \/>\u00b7 fish husbandry experience<br \/>\u00b7 experience with data analysis, and proficiency with coding in R or python preferred<br \/>\u00b7 experience conducting an independent research project<br \/>\u00b7 ability to work independently on a project and see it to completion, when provided the specific goals and objectives by the supervisor<br \/>\u00b7 demonstrated ability writing (e.g., author or co-authorship on peer-reviewed pub or gov report) preferred<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Essential Functions<\/strong>:\u00a0 \u00a0<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Lead and participate in survey crews that conduct fishery research. Make standardized observations such as species identification, length, weight, behavior, growth, survival, reproductive condition, and\/or signs of parasites, diseases or pathogens, fin clips or tags.<\/li>\n<li>Lead and perform data entry for data from representative biological samples, telemetry devices, etc. Error check the data, maintain and update database, analyze and organize data in the appropriate format (table, spreadsheet, memorandum, or report) necessary for transfer to individuals, agencies, and organizations. Modify software programs and perform data queries. Prepare summary reports to transfer data.<\/li>\n<li>Assist researchers in investigations of long term and short term fisheries resource management problems. Collect biological samples, record data, perform routine analyses of data, and contribute draft sections to scientific papers for publication.<\/li>\n<li>Assist in design, development, and installation of components of naturalistic environments. Assist with analysis of the behavior of different species in simulated environments.
