This is \u201cthe real Alaska\u201d and it might just be the perfect place to call home.<br \/><br \/><\/div>\n<div><strong>Key Responsibilities<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Strategic &amp; Operational Leadership:\u00a0<\/strong>The COO\u00a0oversees all internal operations \u2013 including finance, human resources, administration and facilities\u00a0\u2013 to ensure alignment with strategic goals.\u00a0Partnering with the President &amp; CEO\u00a0and senior leadership, the COO will develop\u00a0key initiatives,\u00a0lead strategic plan implementation, and\u00a0promote\u00a0a culture of excellence and accountability.\u00a0Ultimately, the role will\u00a0assist in unifying departments around shared values and a commitment to positive impact\u00a0while ensuring operational excellence.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Team Supervision and Personnel Management:\u00a0<\/strong>Along with directly supervising key members of the leadership, finance, and operations teams, the COO will oversee the work of some consultants and contractors, ensuring organizational and compliance standards alignment.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Financial Oversight and Compliance:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>This role\u00a0is responsible for\u00a0maintaining\u00a0adherence to federal and state regulations,\u00a0including 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance). The COO\u00a0ensures accurate forecasting, timely financial reporting and full compliance with grant requirements.\u00a0They will also regularly identify cost efficiency improvement opportunities, as well as exploring new revenue generating initiatives.\u00a0They will work with a fractional finance director and bookkeepers to accomplish this aspect of the role.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Grants &amp; Contracts Administration:\u00a0<\/strong>The COO\u00a0ensures key staff engage in\u00a0active monitoring\u00a0and management of\u00a0grant and contract budgets\u00a0and\u00a0expenditures and\u00a0ensures\u00a0compliance in close coordination with program and finance staff. This includes regularly reviewing and adjusting spending plans to ensure alignment with both funding requirements and organizational goals. The COO also leads the contract review and risk assessment processes, using judgment to identify when legal counsel should be engaged for additional guidance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Risk Management and Legal Oversight:\u00a0<\/strong>The COO\u00a0maintains and enhances\u00a0systems supporting institutional risk management, regulatory compliance and overall operational resilience.\u00a0They also serve as the primary liaison for legal counsel on operational matters.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mission and Culture Champion:\u00a0<\/strong>By fostering a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative work environment, the COO helps support staff motivation, retention and professional growth. Through intentional leadership, this role cultivates a sense of shared ownership and accountability for the organization\u2019s success.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><strong>You&#8217;ll Need<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>At least\u00a05\u00a0years of progressively responsible leadership experience\u00a0in nonprofit or mission-driven organizational management<\/li>\n<li>Strong knowledge of nonprofit regulations and\u00a0compliance, and federal grants management, especially 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance)<\/li>\n<li>A degree\u00a0(Bachelor\u2019s\u00a0or higher)\u00a0in\u00a0a relevant field<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated experience in budgeting,\u00a0forecasting, personnel supervision, and organizational development<\/li>\n<li>Deep familiarity\u00a0with grants and contracting processes; ability to renew and\u00a0adjust budgets and spending plans<\/li>\n<li>Competency in evaluating institutional risk and managing contract and legal processes\u00a0and statutory compliance<\/li>\n<li>Proven ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams in support of a shared mission<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><strong>Preferred Qualifications<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Experience managing hybrid teams and working with fractional or consultant-based roles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><strong>P<\/strong><strong>eopleAK is here for you!\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>Our recruiters have over 50 years of combined experience placing candidates in rewarding roles.
