Wastewater Department with GIS data collection in the field and to provide the student with a quality summer work experience in water distribution and GIS.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>\n<h2>Job Description<\/h2>\n<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p><strong><u>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS<\/u><\/strong><strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Locate, verify and identify water facilities and appurtenances in the field using paper and electronic system maps.<\/li>\n<li>Utilize GPS equipment to collect various asset data in the field to inform condition assessment, operations &amp; maintenance and capital project planning.<\/li>\n<li>Create and edit GIS features and attributes.<\/li>\n<li>Work with Water &amp; Wastewater Technicians to identify and report required map updates.<\/li>\n<li>Responsible for use, care and security of tools, vehicles, equipment and materials utilized.<\/li>\n<li>Perform work with a high level of accuracy and professionalism.<\/li>\n<li>Must have the ability to work as a member of a team and independently.<\/li>\n<li>Drive and\/or operate vehicles and equipment as required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<br \/><strong><u>ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS<\/u><\/strong><strong>:<\/strong><br \/>\n<ul>\n<li>Complete paperwork associated with job functions in a neat and timely manner.<\/li>\n<li>Report any hazards or damage observed to District facilities to supervisor.<\/li>\n<li>Other duties as assigned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<br \/><strong><u>JOB STANDARDS<\/u><\/strong><strong>:<\/strong><br \/><strong><u>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities<\/u><\/strong><strong>:<\/strong><br \/>\n<ul>\n<li>Must learn to locate and identify mains, distribution lines, pipes, meters, hydrants, and valves.<\/li>\n<li>Must learn to work from maps, GPS devices, paper maps, specifications and sketches.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Must be able to receive and carry out work instructions.<\/li>\n<li>High level of cooperation within the work group and with other departments required.\n<ul>\n<li>Must have math, reading and writing skills as related to job functions.<\/li>\n<li>Must become knowledgeable of District record-keeping methods and procedures such as time sheets, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Must have the ability to work without close supervision and to make decisions<\/li>\n<li>compatible with prior instructions.<\/li>\n<li>Must develop a working knowledge of safe work practices, accident prevention procedures, tools and equipment as related to job functions.<\/li>\n<li>Must have the ability to remain calm under pressure and to be courteous at all times.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate a positive attitude, good work ethic, promptness in work arrival and in accomplishing all tasks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<br \/><strong><u>Education, Experience and Training<\/u><\/strong><strong>:<\/strong><br \/>\n<ul>\n<li>Experience with water or wastewater systems and associated equipment and materials, including computers and GPS\/GIS equipment preferred.<\/li>\n<li>Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.<\/li>\n<li>Must be a student enrolled in a post-secondary education program.<\/li>\n<li>Experience in the operation of District (or similar) vehicles and equipment preferred.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<br \/><strong><u>Other Requirements<\/u><\/strong><strong>:<\/strong><br \/>\n<ul>\n<li>Must pass a District physical examination and be able to perform essential job functions.<\/li>\n<li>Must wear and utilize personal protective equipment as required.\n<ul>\n<li>A valid driver&#8217;s license and safe driving record.<\/li>\n<li>Must pass a District physical examination and be able to perform essential job functions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<br \/><strong><u>WORKING CONDITIONS<\/u><\/strong><strong>:<\/strong><br \/>\n<ul>\n<li>The job functions will be performed in indoor and outdoor environments, subject to adverse weather conditions and noise.<\/li>\n<li>Some job functions will be done in areas covered by brush and trees or in trenches and where footing is poor and the ground uneven and\/or water soaked.<\/li>\n<li>Job functions around traffic or mechanized equipment will present the need for alertness and safety awareness.<\/li>\n<li>The job functions include working with persons who exhibit many types of personalities and behaviors.<\/li>\n<li>Job functions require work on ladders, structures and equipment.<\/li>\n<li>May encounter the need to work near hazardous materials.<\/li>\n<li>The job involves working in areas where animals\/livestock may be present.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<br \/><strong><u>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS<\/u><\/strong><strong>:<\/strong><br \/>\n<ul>\n<li>The work requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. \u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The work requires the ability to operate equipment and vehicles.<\/li>\n<li>The work requires the ability to work in limited light;
