Program coordinators work collaboratively\u00a0with a variety of\u00a0partners\u00a0to\u00a0advance SPP\u2019s\u00a0mission to\u00a0bring nature, science, and environmental education into prisons.\u00a0More information on SPP can be found on our website:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabilityinprisons.org\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sustainabilityinprisons.org\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>OPPORTUNITIES<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work with an Evergreen-based organization that supports the balance between SPP job duties and graduate school responsibilities.<\/li>\n<li>Improve access to science and sustainability education for an underserved group of people.<\/li>\n<li>Assist in the recovery of an endangered species within a large group of natural resource agencies and conservation organizations.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in a learning exchange with a collaborative, engaged community of incarcerated people, corrections staff, scientists, researchers, faculty, and students.<\/li>\n<li>Learn and work across differences to promote positive change, practice respect and compassion for\u00a0<i>all<\/i>\u00a0partners and collaborators.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in professional development opportunities including training, conferences, and education events; provide valuable contributions to SPP statewide and beyond.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><i>Required<\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Current or fall enrollment in\u00a0an Evergreen\u00a0graduate degree program.<\/li>\n<li>Available to\u00a0work\u00a020hrs.\/wk. primarily Monday-Friday between 8am and 6pm\u00a0(some\u00a0hours\u00a0may be\u00a0flexible). If desired additional hours may be available during academic year breaks.<\/li>\n<li><strong><u>Given that this position includes work with living organisms, work may require occasional evening and weekend hours or additional time. All worked hours will be compensated.<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Interest in working with living organisms (turtles, butterflies, butterfly larvae, and bees) and supporting access to education and nature.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Subject-matter and technical expertise are desirable, but\u00a0<\/strong><i><strong>not<\/strong><\/i><strong>\u00a0required. On the job learning and training will be supported.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Excellent\u00a0social\u00a0and\u00a0communication\u00a0skills are\u00a0<u>essential<\/u>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Current\u00a0driver\u2019s\u00a0license\u00a0and reliable vehicle and\/or willingness to request state motor pool vehicle\u00a0for trips\u00a0to\u00a0prisons\u00a0in western Washington\u00a0(personal vehicle\u00a0mileage\u00a0will\u00a0be\u00a0reimbursed).<\/li>\n<li>Willingness\u00a0and\u00a0ability\u00a0to\u00a0work safely and professionally\u00a0in a correctional\u00a0setting; employment contingent on successful WA DOC background check and security clearance.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work across differences with respect and compassion for all people; ability to effectively\u00a0communicate\u00a0and collaborate\u00a0with WA DOC staff and\u00a0supervisors,\u00a0incarcerated people, partner organizations, and SPP team members to fulfill SPP\u2019s mission.<\/li>\n<li>Willingness\u00a0and\u00a0ability\u00a0to\u00a0follow\u00a0directions, keep information organized and accessible, collaborate on\u00a0projects,\u00a0and\u00a0give\u00a0and\u00a0hear feedback.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><i>Desired<\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Knowledge and\/or experience in the field of conservation biology, ecology, zoology, veterinary science, animal behavior, wildlife rehabilitation, and\/or environmental education.<\/li>\n<li>Experience caring for animals.<\/li>\n<li>Administrative\u00a0experience\u00a0and\/or aptitude.<\/li>\n<li>Experience developing and supporting partnerships.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The primary responsibilities of all SPP program coordinators are to maintain thriving education and training programs, while cultivating positive\u00a0relationships with program partners.\u00a0This position leads coordination of seasonal ecological education programs at Cedar Creek Corrections Center including the Western Pond Turtle (WPT) Rehabilitation program. Turtle care is seasonal, and other programs will change based on available resources, partnerships, and incarcerated technicians\u2019 interests. SPP staff practice strong partnership building, communication, adaptability, and problem-solving skills.<\/p>\n<p>Position tasks are described below. Requested duties may vary depending on program\u00a0status, participant needs, and organization priorities. All time and travel expenses are compensated.\u00a0As a member of the SPP partnership, the person in this position will have influence on position tasks.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Program Coordination<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><i>Turtle Rehabilitation:\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support credit-eligible experiential education and training including workshops on program turtle care procedures and program operation.<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate visits for veterinarians and\/or WDFW biologists to check on the shell healing process.<\/li>\n<li>Transfer instructions, updates, and other information from biologists and\/or veterinarians to the SPP Program Technicians and Liaisons.<\/li>\n<li>Document turtle shell healing and provide updates to the turtle recovery team as requested.<\/li>\n<li>Be on call to assist with animal transportation, healthcare emergencies, and to facilitate care as needed (seasonal and short duration).<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate with program partners to update and maintain turtle care procedures; ensure compliance, and effectively address protocol or procedure drift as it occurs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><i>General<\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work with all partners to identify, develop, implement, and maintain quality education, training, and program operations.<\/li>\n<li>Make independent site visits to deliver education and training, monitor program status, and invest in program success; visit the prison at least once a week during turtle season with less frequent visits when turtles are not present; facilitate visits with experts to improve program education, training, and operation.<\/li>\n<li>As resources are available, support peer-led education courses on topics such as gardening and composting.<\/li>\n<li>Facilitate communication, participate in meetings, and provide partners updates as needed\/ requested; communicate any concerns expressed by the SPP Liaison and\/or Technicians to respective program partners.<\/li>\n<li>Whenever possible, empower technicians to participate in program planning, problem solving, education and training development, and updating procedures.<\/li>\n<li>Make purchase requests, gain required approvals, deliver project supplies and equipment, and maintain inventory tracking.<\/li>\n<li>Provide recommendation letters, and other education and reentry support resources for technicians as requested.<\/li>\n<li>Oversee and ensure the quality of hardcopy data and data entry as needed; share data with partners as requested.<\/li>\n<li>Work with DOC staff to maintain and repair program infrastructure, generate facilities work requests as needed.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in the recruitment, interview, and hiring process for new Program Technicians.<\/li>\n<li>Occasionally generate web and social media content for SPP sites.<\/li>\n<li>Track education, training, and reentry support for program participants in SPP data.<\/li>\n<li>As resources allow, support the work of volunteers and undergraduate interns.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reporting and Accountability\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide program updates to supervisor in weekly meetings and to the team every two weeks in SPP-Evergreen staff meetings; participate in quarterly check-ins with supervisor.<\/li>\n<li>Actively participate in the SPP team and organization, including:<\/li>\n<li>Create\u00a0and\u00a0collaborate\u00a0on education,\u00a0outreach, and dissemination\u00a0materials.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in\u00a0opportunities\u00a0for inter-program\u00a0support and training.<\/li>\n<li>Support organization administrative tasks based on skills and organization need.<\/li>\n<li>Present\u00a0on\u00a0SPP\u00a0to\u00a0varied audiences.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain task lists and documents in accessible locations.
