Program coordinators work collaboratively\u00a0with a variety of\u00a0partners,\u00a0to\u00a0advance SPP\u2019s\u00a0mission to\u00a0bring nature, science, and environmental education into prisons. More information on SPP can found on our website:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabilityinprisons.org\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sustainabilityinprisons.org\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>OPPORTUNITIES<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work with an Evergreen-based organization that supports the balance between SPP job duties and graduate school responsibilities.<\/li>\n<li>Improve access to science and sustainability education for an underserved group of people.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in a learning exchange with a collaborative, engaged community of incarcerated people, corrections staff, scientists, researchers, faculty, and students.<\/li>\n<li>Learn and work across differences to promote positive change, practice respect and compassion for\u00a0<i>all<\/i>\u00a0partners and collaborators.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in professional development opportunities including training, conferences, and education events;\u00a0provide valuable contributions to SPP statewide and beyond.<\/li>\n<li>Develop curricula development and presentation skills<\/li>\n<li>Direct involvement with a Pacific Northwest conservation community involving State, Federal, and non-profit agencies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><i>Required\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Current or fall\u00a0enrollment in\u00a0an Evergreen\u00a0graduate\u00a0program.<\/li>\n<li>Available to\u00a0work\u00a020hrs.\/wk. primarily Monday-Friday between 8am and 6pm\u00a0(some\u00a0hours\u00a0may be\u00a0flexible). If desired additional hours may be available during academic year breaks.<\/li>\n<li><strong><u>Given that this position includes work with living organisms, work may require occasional evening and weekend hours or additional time. All worked hours will be compensated.<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Interest in working with living organisms (plants, butterflies, butterfly larvae, and bees) and supporting access to education and nature.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Subject-matter and technical expertise are desirable, but\u00a0<\/strong><i><strong>not<\/strong><\/i><strong>\u00a0required. On the job learning and training will be supported.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Excellent social\u00a0and\u00a0communication\u00a0skills are\u00a0<u>essential<\/u>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Current\u00a0driver\u2019s\u00a0license and reliable\u00a0vehicle (mileage\u00a0will\u00a0be\u00a0reimbursed) and\/or willingness to request state motor pool vehicle\u00a0for trips\u00a0to\u00a0prisons.<\/li>\n<li>Willingness\u00a0and\u00a0ability\u00a0to\u00a0work safely and professionally\u00a0in a correctional\u00a0setting; employment contingent on successful WA DOC background check and security clearance.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work across differences with respect and compassion for all people; effectively communicate\u00a0and collaborate\u00a0with incarcerated people, corrections staff and supervisors, partner organizations, and SPP team members to fulfill SPP\u2019s mission.<\/li>\n<li>Willingness\u00a0and\u00a0ability\u00a0to\u00a0follow\u00a0directions, keep information organized and accessible, collaborate on\u00a0projects,\u00a0and\u00a0give\u00a0and\u00a0receive feedback.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><i>Desired<\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Knowledge and\/or experience in conservation biology, environmental education, agriculture, horticulture, environmental science, animal care, or related field.<\/li>\n<li>Administrative\u00a0experience\u00a0and\/or aptitude.<\/li>\n<li>Experience developing and supporting partnerships.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The primary responsibilities of all SPP program coordinators are to maintain thriving education and training programs, while cultivating positive\u00a0relationships with program partners.\u00a0The conservation nurseries have three program coordinators. These positions coordinate the efforts of Evergreen, WA Corrections, and conservation partners to cultivate plant materials for restoration projects in the Pacific Northwest. The three separate nurseries cultivate plants and grow seed for the restoration of upland prairie, savannah, and woodland habitat. Each facility is staffed by an incarcerated technician crew, WA Corrections staff liaison, and led by an SPP Conservation Nursery Coordinator under the supervision of SPP\u2019s Conservation Nursery Manager. In addition to leading the program at a single nursery site, nursery coordinators assist with tasks in all SPP programs as needed.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Position tasks are described below. Requested duties may vary depending on program\u00a0status, participant needs, and organization priorities. All time and travel expenses are compensated.\u00a0As a member of the SPP partnership, the person in this position will have influence on position tasks.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Program Coordination:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make independent site visits to support programs. Site visits are typically once per week and sometimes twice per week during busy planting seasons, October-November and April-June.\n<ul>\n<li>During weekly visits, work alongside the incarcerated program participants (technicians) for a full workday (i.e. a minimum of 6 hours) to promote crew morale.<\/li>\n<li>Track and record all sowing, stratification, and cultivation protocols<\/li>\n<li>Whenever possible, involve program technicians to actively participate in program planning, problem solving, education and training, and program improvements.<\/li>\n<li>Identify pest and disease issues; record and report to project supervisor; research and implement disease and insect control.<\/li>\n<li>Inventory supplies and equipment; occasionally deliver heavy materials as needed.<\/li>\n<li>Inform program supervisor of any changes to project scope, physical site, or infrastructure needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Participate in ongoing program planning, improvement, and problem solving.<\/li>\n<li>Work with partners and other SPP staff to support, deliver, improve, and maintain education and training.
