Program coordinators work collaboratively\u00a0with a variety of\u00a0partners,\u00a0to\u00a0advance SPP\u2019s\u00a0mission to\u00a0bring nature, science, and environmental education into prisons. More information on SPP can be found on our website:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabilityinprisons.org\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sustainabilityinprisons.org\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>OPPORTUNITIES<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work with an Evergreen-based organization that supports the balance between SPP job duties and graduate school responsibilities.<\/li>\n<li>Improve access to science and sustainability education for an underserved group of people.<\/li>\n<li>Assist in the recovery of a federally endangered species within a large group of natural resource agencies and conservation organizations.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in a learning exchange with a collaborative, engaged community of incarcerated people, corrections staff, scientists, researchers, faculty, and students.<\/li>\n<li>Learn and work across differences to promote positive change, practice respect and compassion for\u00a0<i>all<\/i>\u00a0partners and collaborators.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in professional development opportunities including training, conferences, and education events; provide valuable contributions to SPP statewide and beyond.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><i>Required<\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Current or fall\u00a0enrollment in\u00a0an Evergreen\u00a0graduate degree\u00a0program.<\/li>\n<li>Available to work\u00a020hrs.\/wk. primarily Monday-Friday between 8am and 6pm\u00a0(some\u00a0hours\u00a0may be\u00a0flexible).<\/li>\n<li><strong><u>Given that some SPP coordinator positions include work with living organisms, work may require occasional evening and weekend hours or additional time. All worked hours will be compensated.<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Interest in working with living organisms (honey bees) and supporting access to education and nature.<\/li>\n<li>Subject-matter and technical expertise are desirable,\u00a0<strong>but can be taught on the job and are\u00a0<\/strong><i><strong>not<\/strong><\/i><strong>\u00a0required.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Excellent\u00a0social\u00a0and\u00a0communication\u00a0skills are\u00a0<u>essential<\/u>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Current\u00a0driver\u2019s\u00a0license and reliable\u00a0vehicle (mileage\u00a0will\u00a0be\u00a0reimbursed) and\/or willingness to request state motor pool vehicle\u00a0for trips\u00a0to\u00a0prisons.<\/li>\n<li>Willingness\u00a0and\u00a0ability\u00a0to\u00a0work safely and professionally\u00a0in a correctional\u00a0setting; employment contingent on successful WA DOC background check and security clearance.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work across differences with respect and compassion for all people; effectively\u00a0communicate\u00a0and collaborate\u00a0with WA DOC staff and\u00a0supervisors,\u00a0incarcerated people, partner organizations, and SPP team members to fulfill SPP\u2019s mission.<\/li>\n<li>Willingness\u00a0and\u00a0ability\u00a0to\u00a0follow\u00a0directions, keep information organized and accessible, collaborate on\u00a0projects,\u00a0and\u00a0give\u00a0and\u00a0hear feedback.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><i>Desired<\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Knowledge and\/or experience in conservation biology, ecology, environmental education, horticulture, environmental science, animal care, and\/or related field.<\/li>\n<li>Administrative\u00a0experience\u00a0and\/or aptitude.<\/li>\n<li>Experience developing and supporting partnerships<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The primary responsibilities of all SPP program coordinators are to maintain thriving education and training programs, while cultivating positive relationships with program partners. This position\u00a0will lead efforts to update and improve environmental education programs and will work closely with the Environmental Education and Outreach Coordinator. Current programs include peer-led\u00a0<strong>Foundations in Gardening<\/strong>\u00a0course,\u00a0<strong>Foundations in Composting<\/strong>\u00a0course,\u00a0<strong>Peer Facilitation<\/strong>\u00a0training, and\u00a0<strong>Beekeeping<\/strong>\u00a0education. For peer-led programs, incarcerated individuals serve as facilitators, mentors, instructors, subject-matter experts, and\/or program administrators and participants receive a certificate for successful completion. Beekeeping education is supported by local beekeeping experts and certification is provided by Washington State Beekeeping Association. All SPP environmental education programs include support from SPP-Evergreen including regular check-ins, student and administrative tracking, access to reporting, certificate recognition, and celebration.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Position tasks are described below. Requested duties may vary depending on program status, participant needs, and organization priorities. All time and travel expenses are compensated.\u00a0As a member of the SPP partnership, the person in this position will have influence on position tasks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Program Coordination<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work with the Supervisor and the Environmental Education Coordinator to identify, plan, and update the Foundations in Gardening and the Foundations in Gardening Curriculums. This may include updates to the curriculum, formatting, portfolio components, supplemental materials, and outreach materials.<\/li>\n<li>Collect and track feedback from peer led classes and trainings.<\/li>\n<li>Serve as a backup for peer to peer and beekeeping classes.
