We anticipate that successful candidates will come from disciplines such as ecology, environmental science, plant science, and conservation biology. The ability to teach natural science methodologies and content to students with diverse backgrounds in both the natural and social sciences is more important than the specific area of expertise. The ideal candidate will have the ability to help students develop skills and expertise to understand the scientific context of environmental problems. Expertise with tribal community responses to environmental issues would be especially helpful. Evergreen organizes its curriculum through interdisciplinary programs, with faculty teams collaborating across disciplines to design and teach an integrated graduate-level curriculum. The ideal candidate has the ability and passion to integrate the social and natural sciences through study and applications of real-world issues within this curriculum.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<th>Job Summary<\/th>\n<td>\u00a0<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<div>A successful candidate must be able to: 1) teach foundational material and advanced topics within the environmental and natural sciences, which might include areas such as conservation biology, ecosystem ecology, environmental science, and natural resources management; 2) teach in interdisciplinary teams with other natural and social scientists; 3) help students develop research skills in environmental and natural sciences; 4) help students develop analytical and methodological tools employed in the environmental and natural sciences, which might include research design, statistical analysis, quantitative methods, and\/or Geographical Information Systems; and 5) support students in developing their academic writing skills.<br \/><br \/><\/div>\n<div>The position is an adjunct faculty member dedicated to graduate students in the\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">MES<\/span>\u00a0program, with classroom. The position will contribute to the Core\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">MES<\/span>\u00a0curriculum (and potentially elective courses in the candidates areas of expertise) along with other\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">MES<\/span>\u00a0faculty as part of teaching teams. Possible courses include:<br \/>1) Fall quarter: \u201cCase Studies and Thesis Design,\u201d or \u201cConceptualizing our Regional Environment,\u201d<br \/>2) Winter quarter: \u201cEcological and Social Sustainability,\u201d and<br \/>3) Spring quarter: \u201cResearch Design and Quantitative Methods.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<th>Job Expectations<\/th>\n<td>\u00a0<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>Evergreen uses narrative evaluations in lieu of grades, and full-time faculty are generally responsible for evaluating 15 students per quarter in\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">MES<\/span>\u00a0courses. Faculty are also responsible for advising students in their respective area(s) of expertise regarding skill development, career opportunities, and thesis research projects.\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">MES<\/span>\u00a0faculty are expected to participate in College and\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">MES<\/span>\u00a0program governance.<br \/><br \/>Our students, faculty and staff create learning communities to understand environmental problems and solutions.
