The primary duties of the position are to provide consulting services to field foresters, staff, and management personnel related to the effects of the forest management activities on wildlife and wildlife habitat. This position will provide local knowledge to research project leads and act as the local representative for science queries within the Olympic Experimental State Forest (OESF). Additional duties are to provide resource planning and planning direction through proposed policies, procedures, and guidelines for region management, and supervising a team that consists of a Natural Resource Specialist 3 (Consulting Forester) and a Natural Resource Scientist 2 (State Lands Ecologist).\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>\n<h2>Duties<\/h2>\n<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide scientific and procedural guidance, allowing successful integration of wildlife objectives into trust land management and revenue generation through the region\u2019s timber sale program. \u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Consults with State Lands staff, Timber Sale foresters, Engineers, and other Region programs on Fish and Wildlife matters such as stream typing, wetlands management, and habitat delineation.<\/li>\n<li>Consultations include but are not limited to the planning and design of timber sales, fish and wildlife enhancement projects, and forest engineering projects, which include road construction and rock pit development.<\/li>\n<li>Act as a region contact with the staff and working partners related to the research and projects ongoing in the Olympic Experimental State Forest.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>\n<h2>Qualifications<\/h2>\n<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p><strong>Required Qualifications:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor\u2019s degree in fisheries, wildlife management, natural resource science, or environmental science;<br \/>AND three years of professional experience in fish management, fish research, wildlife management, wildlife research, habitat management, or habitat research;<br id=\"isPasted\" \/>OR an equivalent combination of education and\/or experience.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with fish and wildlife ecology and habitat management in a forested environment.<\/li>\n<li>General knowledge of stream ecology, forest management practices, and an understanding of principles and procedures of wildlife, fish, and habitat management and biological research.<\/li>\n<li>Skilled at forming collaborative partnerships, finding workable solutions, and negotiating agreements with diverse internal and external working partners.<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.<\/li>\n<li>Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and public records retention and requests are followed.<\/li>\n<li>DNR Core Competencies:\n<ul>\n<li>Personal Accountability<\/li>\n<li>Value Others<\/li>\n<li>Compassionate Communication<\/li>\n<li>Inspire Others<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to Excellence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<strong>Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Office (40% of time) and field (60% of time). This position requires driving as an essential function.
