Conduct port sampling to\u00a0determine\u00a0the catch per unit of effort and species composition to obtain valid sport catch estimates in recreational and commercial fisheries:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

Record, summarize, and chart field data\u00a0utilizing\u00a0electronic devices, software programs, and paper forms, including daily synchronization of data collected into external databases,\u00a0emphasizing\u00a0promptness and error-free records.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n

Regular professional interactions with sport, tribal, and commercial\u00a0fishermen\u00a0to explain WDFW research projects, procedures, and\u00a0objectives\u00a0to enlist their cooperation in reporting marked fish encounters, recording the types and locations of catches, and overall fishing effort.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\u00a0<\/div>\n

Position is 100%\u00a0fieldwork and\u00a0can\u00a0occur in busy fish houses or\u00a0cannery rooms around\u00a0various types\u00a0of equipment,\u00a0machinery,\u00a0sharp sampling tools or fishing gear.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n

Work hours include long periods of sitting, squatting, kneeling, walking, climbing in and out of boats, sampling salmon in a boat, carrying and occasionally\u00a0lifting (up to 60 lbs. unassisted)\u00a0heavy\u00a0containers of fish, fish blood, and slime, negotiating steep ramps unstable docks and slippery surfaces, biting and stinging insects, use of knives.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n

This position may involve working in or near water, including tasks that require navigating, negotiating, and performing duties related to water environments. Must be able to negotiate water in\u00a0emergencies.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Schedule:<\/span>\u00a0Monday – Sunday, non-scheduled, 24\/7. Typically, 8 – 10 hours per day between\u00a03:00\u00a0A.M. – 10:00 P.M. 40 hours per week. Weekend work, non-consecutive days off, and occasional long hours are\u00a0required.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\u00a0<\/div>\n

Travel Requirements:<\/span>\u00a0A personal vehicle for daily travel is\u00a0required\u00a0within assigned ports. Seldom travel is needed to Montesano or other ports within Washington.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\u00a0<\/div>\n

Tools and Equipment:<\/span>\u00a0Knives, scissors, tweezers, hemostats, measuring board, PFD, iPad, cell phone, laptop, and T wand.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\u00a0<\/div>\n

Customer Interactions:<\/span>\u00a0Interacts with the public daily for fisheries data collection, providing basic information\u00a0regarding\u00a0fisheries resources, sport fishing regulatory information, and\u00a0agency programs and activities. This may include interactions with individuals experiencing anger, distress, or frustration\u2014liaison\u00a0with regional supervisor and enforcement on fishery violations\u00a0observed\u00a0in the field.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\u00a0<\/div>\n

Option 1:\u00a0<\/span>Graduation from high school or GED,\u00a0including one\u00a0(1)\u00a0year of high school science\u00a0<\/span>and<\/span>\u00a0two\u00a0(2)\u00a0years of experience as a Scientific Technician 1.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
