This year, the program will be open to University of Washington (UW) and other local Seattle\/Washington grad students, up to 10 grad students from outside of Washington, and recent graduates. We encourage students who have completed at least one year of their graduate program (Master\u2019s or Doctoral) OR those within five years of finishing their terminal degree to apply!<\/p>\n<h3>What will I learn?<\/h3>\n<p>The program focuses on different elements of climate resilience, justice, and equity. Students will develop a well-rounded understanding of climate resilience and justice from diverse perspectives in order to better understand how to integrate climate justice and resilience into their work, practice areas, research, or life. The program will host a variety of guest speakers from different professional, academic, and lived-experience backgrounds (some examples to show breadth below); emphasize intensive 3-week program with several speakers\/activities per day and several field trips. The program mixes learning modalities that range from group discussions, activities, mixed media, panels, lectures, and field trips.<\/p>\n<p>Topics may include: intersectionality, systems of oppression, climate and environmental justice, knowledge systems, economics and degrowth, design and planning, community-driven scholarship and more. The program will host a variety of guest speakers from different professional, academic, and lived-experience backgrounds (some examples to show breadth below); emphasize intensive 3-week program with several speakers\/activities per day and several field trips. Examples of past speakers include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dr. Heather Price \u2013 North Seattle Colleges; Climate Justice Across the Curriculum<\/li>\n<li>Todd Mitchell \u2013 Environmental Director of the Swinomish Department of Environmental Protection with the Swinomish Tribal Community<\/li>\n<li>Dr. Jan Newton \u2013 Co-director, Washington Ocean Acidification Center; Backyard Buoys<\/li>\n<li>Faduma Fido \u2013 People\u2019s Economy Lab<\/li>\n<li>Tory Stephens \u2013 Grist Magazine<\/li>\n<li>Francesca Murnan \u2013 City of Seattle Indigenous Advisory Council Liaison<\/li>\n<li>Black Star Farmers \u2013 Seattle local mutual aid group<\/li>\n<li>Cyril Walrond \u2013 Northwest Community Bail Fund<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Can you share the program timeline?<\/h3>\n<p>The program will be hosted June 16, 2025 through July 4, 2025, split between the UW Seattle campus and UW Pack Forest in Eatonville, Wash. Students must be available to attend all program dates, including the virtual program orientation in May.<\/p>\n<p><i>Program timeline:<\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Feb. 18<\/strong>\u00a0Information session @ 10 \u2013 11 a.m. PT via Zoom<\/li>\n<li><strong>Feb. 28<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Priority applications due<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mar. 17<\/strong>\u00a0Application window closes at 5 p.m. PT<\/li>\n<li><strong>Apr. 1<\/strong>\u00a0Applicants will be notified\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>May 17\u00a0<\/strong>Virtual program orientation<\/li>\n<li><strong>June 16-27\u00a0<\/strong>Hosted on UW Seattle campus; June 19 (Juneteenth) off<\/li>\n<li><strong>June 28-July 4\u00a0<\/strong>Hosted at UW Pack Forest; July 4 (Independence Day) off\/final date<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Are there scholarships or stipends available?<\/h3>\n<p><strong>For Seattle local participants who\u00a0<em>do not need<\/em>\u00a0accommodation during the program<\/strong>, we plan to cover all costs of attendance, including lunches during the program and room and board for the final week of the program in Pack Forest.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For participants from outside the Seattle area who require transportation to Seattle and accommodation<\/strong>, we are able to provide a $450 travel stipend to defer travel costs, and cover all room and board during the program.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cig.uw.edu\/our-programs\/the-northwest-climate-resilience-collaborative\/climate-resilience-institute\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Please see the FAQ<\/a>\u00a0for information on room and board.<\/p>\n<p>We intend on covering costs for up to 30 participants.
