This position will be responsible for implementing a variety of habitat restoration projects that will benefit coldwater fishes and their habitat in southeast Alaska\u2019s Tongass National Forest working in close partnership with the U.S. \u00a0Forest Service and other community and agency partners. \u00a0The Restoration Project Manager will identify, plan, and implement projects that reconnect and restore coldwater habitat for wild trout and salmon. The position works closely with the US Forest \u00a0Service to develop a pipeline of projects and may share an office in a USFS facility and use both a \u00a0TU and USFS computer and software to meet regularly with USFS staff ensuring projects are \u00a0coordinated meet USFS standards. The position may also require specialized training provided by \u00a0the US Forest Service for use of Forest Service vehicles, ATVs, boats, firearms, and other \u00a0equipment. Specific projects may include prioritizing, developing and coordinating culvert designs \u00a0and replacements, streambank stabilizations and revegetation, instream habitat and riparian \u00a0restoration, and other stream and fisheries related restoration or conservation projects. The position \u00a0also works closely with engineering, design, and construction contractors, as well as community and \u00a0industry leaders, conservation groups and other local community partners and federal and state agencies. This is a full-time position based in southeast Alaska ( Juneau, Ketchikan, Petersburg, Wrangell or Sitka preferred).<\/p>\n<p>Since we undertake our restoration projects in partnership with federal or state agencies, private \u00a0industry, and other non-governmental organizations, this position will need to coordinate regularly \u00a0with our valued partners. The work at times may be physically demanding and involve travel to \u00a0remote areas. Overnight travel within Alaska is required, especially during the field season that \u00a0generally runs from April to September. The position may occasionally require engagement in \u00a0meetings or projects during evenings and weekends, especially when working with community \u00a0partners and volunteer groups. The salary is commensurate with experience. This is not an all-inclusive list of duties and responsibilities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"job-listing-header\">Requirements<\/h2>\n<div data-bind=\"html: Job.Requirements\">\n<ul>\n<li>A minimum of a bachelor\u2019s degree with coursework or experience in fisheries or wildlife \u00a0biology, hydrology, geomorphology, civil engineering, environmental sciences, or related \u00a0discipline, and at least 2 years of practical restoration experience, including project \u00a0management, project development or design, or similar if combined with the minimum \u00a0education requirements. OR:\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0At least 5 years of practical experience in building and maintaining partnerships, project management related to fish passage or stream restoration, or similar construction or project \u00a0management experience if a candidate does not meet the minimum education criteria.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0In-depth knowledge of fisheries biology, ecology, hydrology, and stream restoration \u00a0principles and practices.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Experience managing projects in rural Alaska.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Experience working with, leading, or coordinating partnerships with tribes and other \u00a0community partners.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Experience reading or interpreting engineering design plans for stream restoration or fish \u00a0passage crossings, and standard contracting practices, including but not limited to writing \u00a0and reviewing requests for proposals, managing contracts and contractors, reviewing \u00a0invoices and tracking budgets, and managing construction projects.<\/li>\n<li>Working with fish passage projects, including assisting or leading surveys, designs, design \u00a0reviews, and construction.<\/li>\n<li>Willing to work long days or irregular hours in challenging, often remote, environments. Work \u00a0may at times be physically demanding. May require walking and maintaining balance on \u00a0slippery surfaces and sloping, highly uneven stream banks, and in conditions of moderate \u00a0streamflow; may require lifting, pulling, pushing, and carrying of field equipment over long \u00a0distances.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>A valid state driver\u2019s license and a personal vehicle. \u00a0<\/li>\n<li>A background check may be required prior to employment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Preferred qualifications:\u00a0<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Master\u2019s degree or 3+ years\u2019 experience in a related field is preferred.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Budgeting and managing federal grants and other funding agreements. \u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work with multiple and diverse partners in a highly collaborative and inclusive \u00a0manner, as well as independently, to successfully plan and complete projects in remote \u00a0locations.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge and experience with ESRI ArcGIS and\/or CAD software programs.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Excellent time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines \u00a0simultaneously.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0A strong passion for Alaska\u2019s native fishes and the watersheds upon which they rely.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to travel in small aircraft to remote job locations.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Staff and leadership at TU understand that life outside of work is important to personal health, and \u00a0we strive to create a healthy and family-friendly atmosphere.
