Incumbents perform field work, provide public education, and enforce code compliance in one or more environmental health program areas with technical oversight from more senior Environmental Health Specialists and under the supervision of the Environmental Health Manager.<\/div>\n<br \/><strong>Environmental Health Specialist Senior Position Description:<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.governmentjobs.com\/careers\/masoncountywa\/classspecs\/1539407\">https:\/\/www.governmentjobs.com\/careers\/masoncountywa\/classspecs\/1539407<\/a>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>\n<h2>Examples of Duties<\/h2>\n<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<div><strong>Coordinate activities within an assigned geographical area for the on-site program, or county-wide for one or more other environmental health program areas.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Coordination will include performing the following functions:<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Interpret federal, state, and local regulations relating to environmental health programs<\/li>\n<li>Review applications and designs for compliance with policies and codes. \u00a0 Examples of such applications and designs include those for plats, subdivisions, SEPA, solid waste sites, septic permits, school plans, public water systems, and building permits.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Evaluate regulated sites and facilities for compliance with policies and codes. \u00a0 Examples of such sites and facilities include new building sites, existing on-site systems, public schools, public water contact facilities, food service establishments.<\/li>\n<li>Monitor regulated activities for compliance with policies and codes. \u00a0 Examples of such activities include the installation and operation of on-site sewage systems and the construction of wells.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Educate and assist the clients and customers regarding those permitting and construction processes that are within local environmental health jurisdiction.<\/li>\n<li>Assist the public with questions and concerns regarding possible environmental health violations.<\/li>\n<li>Investigate complaints and institute correction notices or penalties<\/li>\n<li>Sample, test and analyze substances for determination of components and characteristics.<\/li>\n<li>Regular, reliable and punctual attendance.<\/li>\n<li>Prepare reports and correspondence<\/li>\n<li>Maintain data base information on processes<\/li>\n<li>Other duties relevant to environmental health assigned by the supervisor<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>\n<h2>Minimum Qualifications<\/h2>\n<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<div><em>(Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job may be considered.)<\/em><\/div>\n<strong><br \/><\/strong>\n<div><strong><u>Environmental Health Specialist:<\/u><\/strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Bachelor\u2019s degree, preferably in a life science or environmental health or a related field.
