We are a nonprofit trail stewardship organization whose mission is to create, maintain, and sustain our trail network for all users. We accomplish this through volunteers, project support and professional trail crews support. Our professional trail crew is a Hybrid Trail Crew that works directly with our federal partners to accomplish trail maintenance throughout the Valley. The crew consists of employees from the Wood River Trails Coalition (WRTC) and the U.S. Forest Service.<\/p>\n<p>We have a strong partnership with our local land managers, including the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and Bureau of Land Management (BLM). These partnerships and local support are how we are able to make the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/woodrivertrailscoalition.org\/trail-crew-support\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hybrid Trail Crew<\/a>\u00a0model a success. This model lets us fill a hiring gap and meet the different needs of these agencies, whether that is adding capacity or providing a professional trail crew on an as needed basis. This allows us to create a longer and more varied season for our crew, but also helps provide a continuity of trail management throughout the valley and across different land managers.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Summary:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This position is a crew member on a six person trail crew that will work in the Wood River Valley as part of a Hybrid Trail Crew. The crew will be working on both USFS and BLM lands, doing trail maintenance, including some overnight hitches. The crew will work primarily with the Sawtooth National Forest\u2019s Ketchum Ranger District (KRD) and report to the KRD Trail Crew Supervisor and the WRTC\u2019s Field Operations Manager. There will be some work on BLM trails during the shoulder seasons, as well as neighboring USFS Districts. This is a seasonal position.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u25aa Maintaining and constructing trails to USFS and BLM Standards<\/p>\n<p>\u25aa Trail maintenance duties include brushing, repairing tread, enhancing drainage features, clearing downed trees, and any other work needed<\/p>\n<p>\u25aa Complete project work such as building rock walls, turnpikes, bridges, culverts and other trail infrastructure under the supervision of the trail crew lead<\/p>\n<p>\u25aa Operating chainsaws, power tools and other small equipment<\/p>\n<p>\u25aa Maintaining crew tools and equipment in the field and in the warehouse<\/p>\n<p>\u25aa Carrying out trail maintenance and project activities on a 10 hour day, 4 days a week schedule<\/p>\n<p>\u25aa Completing overnight, extended backcountry hitches with and without pack support<\/p>\n<p>\u25aa Support dispersed and developed recreation needs throughout the season, and other departments as the need arises<\/p>\n<p>\u25aa Communicating the mission, vision, values of the USFS, BLM and WRTC to the public<\/p>\n<p>\u25aa Be supportive of and seek to understand different trail user groups\u2019 needs and perspectives<\/p>\n<p>\u25aa Ensuring the safety of fellow trail crew members, volunteers, and the public at all times while in the field<\/p>\n<p>\u25aa Be adaptable to a changing environment<\/p>\n<p>\u25aa Take the initiative and be self motivated, or follow direction as situations dictate<\/p>\n<p>\u25aa Work in and be adaptable in a changing environment<\/p>\n<p><strong>Required Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u25aa Experience working in an outdoor environment, sometimes in adverse weather conditions<\/p>\n<p>\u25aa Ability to hike long distances and carry and\/or lift 50 lbs. on a daily basis<\/p>\n<p>\u25aa Ability to pass a background check<\/p>\n<p>\u25aa Legally able to work in the U.S. &#8211;
