Trail Stewards are our eyes and ears on the public preserves.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, CLT has 4 preserves opened to the public. These preserves are all open for low-impact recreation from dawn until dusk and offer a variety of experiences in nature.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/capitollandtrust.org\/conserved-lands\/conservation-areas\/oakland-bay-goldsborough-creek-watershed\/bayshore-preserve\/\">Bayshore Preserve<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/capitollandtrust.org\/conserved-lands\/conservation-areas\/black-river-chehalis-watershed\/darlin-creek-preserve\/\">Darlin Creek Preserve<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/capitollandtrust.org\/conserved-lands\/conservation-areas\/oakland-bay-goldsborough-creek-watershed\/hilburn-preserve\/\">Hilburn Preserve<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/capitollandtrust.org\/conserved-lands\/conservation-areas\/steamboat-conservation-partnership-region\/randall-preserve\/\">Randall Preserve<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To become a Trail Steward first double check the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/capitollandtrust.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Trail-Steward_2022.04.27.pdf\">volunteer position description<\/a>\u00a0to make sure this volunteer role is a good fit for you. Here are the key responsibilities you will have as a Trail Steward:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Walk the trails at your preserve at least once a month and submit the online form.<\/li>\n<li>Pick up and dispose of small pieces of garbage.<\/li>\n<li>Clear\/cut small branches or other small pieces of debris from the trails.<\/li>\n<li>Report any problems\/observations to Capitol Land Trust (CLT) using an online form.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>By having someone out at each preserve regularly we can make sure that our public preserves remain safe and enjoyable places for people to visit and connect with nature.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/capitollandtrust.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/visit-a-preserve-strip.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%\">\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center\">Salmon Docent\u00a0<\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/capitollandtrust.org\/get-involved\/salmon-docent\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Website<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Volunteer salmon docents help interpret salmon behavior to people of all ages and build awareness around the importance of salmon conservation. Each fall chum salmon return to Johns Creek during an incredible spawning event lasting just weeks. Johns Creek runs through CLT\u2019s Bayshore Preserve and offers fantastic viewing opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>The Salmon Docent program supports our vision of a future where nature and community thrive. By creating broader opportunities to learn about and experience our natural environment, we can build a stronger and more diverse community that cares about conservation. We welcome our community to witness this amazing phenomenon. This program operates in partnership with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pugetsoundestuarium.org\/\">Puget Sound Estuarium<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Join our team!<\/strong>\u00a0Training is provided in mid-October and program days happen the first two weekends of November. Whether it\u2019s something natural like a shifting riverbed, or something done by humans like planting trees, photo monitoring helps us see the changes in habitat at our preserves.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s easy to help! Visit the photo monitoring stations at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/capitollandtrust.org\/conserved-lands\/conservation-areas\/oakland-bay-goldsborough-creek-watershed\/bayshore-preserve\/\">Bayshore Preserve<\/a>.
