Appointment Length: 4 Months<br \/><\/em><em>August 14, 2024 through December 6, 2024<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The salary listed above includes the 3% pay increase that goes into effect on July 1, 2024.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In addition to the base salary, this position is eligible for 5% premium pay for positions located in King County.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>We are looking for a Creel Survey Technician to provide technical support to the Salmon Managers within WDFW\u2019s Region 4 Office.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Conduct creel surveys of recreational anglers fishing for salmon in the Duwamish\/Green River to collect information necessary to estimate catch and effort statistics for recreational fisheries management.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In this role, you will record, review, and present the data you gather to help determine recreational fishing impacts on salmon.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>With that in mind,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>This is an opportunity<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0to gather information from recreational anglers to determine impacts on Chinook, pink, and coho salmon in the Green River Basin.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>With your experience,<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0you will accurately record creel survey data and create charts and graphs to visually convey your findings.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>We are seeking a candidate,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>who models WDFW values: Accountability, Service, Professionalism, Integrity, Respect, and Empathy (ASPIRE).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duties:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>As our Creel Survey Technician, you will,\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Conduct angler creel surveys for Chinook, pink, and coho salmon in the Green River Basin:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Visually examine fish to identify them and obtain information from anglers fishing for Chinook, pink, and coho salmon including angling duration, species targeted, caught, and released.<\/li>\n<li>Explain survey project, procedures, and objectives to sport fishers to enlist their cooperation in providing quality data for the study.<\/li>\n<li>Walk, bike, and drive long distances daily along the river, often climbing down difficult slopes to reach the riverbank where anglers are fishing.<\/li>\n<li>Row a pontoon boat in the river to access and count anglers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Keep accurate records of survey data and summarize results in both a PowerPoint and report:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Accurately record and compile creel survey data.<\/li>\n<li>Enter data into Excel daily, compile charts, draw graphs, and prepare illustrations to convey the data.<\/li>\n<li>Create a PowerPoint presentation of the results and provide a summary report for the creels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>WORKING CONDITIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><strong>Work Setting, including hazards:<\/strong>\n<ul type=\"circle\">\n<li>Working alone for long hours in physically demanding conditions and sometimes in adverse weather conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Climbing down steep banks, walking, biking, and driving long distances to reach anglers.<\/li>\n<li>Work may include rowing a pontoon boat in the river and encountering bees (yellow jackets) and slippery surfaces.<\/li>\n<li>Must be able to negotiate water in emergency situations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Schedule:<\/strong><br \/>\n<ul>\n<li>40 hours per week, Wednesday \u2013 Saturday.<\/li>\n<li>Surveys will be conducted both in the morning (e.g., 6:00 a.m. start) and evening (e.g., 4:00 p.m. start).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Travel Requirements:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Local travel to field sites is required daily.<\/li>\n<li>An agency vehicle will be provided for surveys.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tools and Equipment:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Bicycle, iPad, pontoon boat or raft, personal floatation device (PFD).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Customer Interactions:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>An agency vehicle will be provided for surveys.<\/li>\n<li>Extensive contact with recreational anglers on the river and boaters at boat ramps.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Graduation from high school or GED, including one (1) year of high school science\u00a0<strong>AND\u00a0<\/strong>two (2) years of experience as a Scientific Technician 1.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>OR<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Graduation from high school or GED, including one (1) year of high school science\u00a0<strong>AND\u00a0<\/strong>two (2) years of laboratory or field experience as an assistant to a biologist, chemist, or zoologist.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Please note:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>College course work involving major study in biology, zoology, fisheries, chemistry, natural sciences, or closely allied field will substitute, year for year, for experience, provided the course work includes at least six (6) semester or nine (9) quarter hours of natural science classes.<\/li>\n<li>Closely related qualifying professional or volunteer experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-by-year basis.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Certifications\/Licenses:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Valid driver\u2019s license.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In addition to those required qualifications, our ideal applicant will also have some or all of the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Experience:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identifying Pacific salmon.<\/li>\n<li>Interviewing members of the public.<\/li>\n<li>Angling for trout or salmon and interacting with other anglers.<\/li>\n<li>Collecting data in the field and recording data accurately.<\/li>\n<li>Rafting, kayaking, or similar activity on the water.<\/li>\n<li>Using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Ability to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Effectively and correctly identify, collect, organize, and document survey field data.<\/li>\n<li>Consistently document information and update records\/databases.<\/li>\n<li>Work independently with very little oversight.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Working knowledge of:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Salmon life
