doing,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<div><br \/><strong><em>Sample recreational fisheries focusing on salmon, marine fish, and shellfish to assess catch per unit effort and species composition to obtain valid<\/em><\/strong><strong>\u00a0sport catch estimates for salmon and other marine fish.<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Sample salmon for coded-wire tags and collect biological data.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>May sample commercial salmon fisheries at fish buyers and plants.<\/li>\n<li>Interview recreational fishery anglers at assigned boat launch facilities.<\/li>\n<li>Implement interview procedures and sampling protocols.<\/li>\n<li>Observe, count, and identify all salmon and marine fish species.<\/li>\n<li>Sample all Coho and Chinook salmon with electronic coded-wire tag (CWT) detection devices (wand detectors).<\/li>\n<li>Classify, sort, and enumerate marked (adipose fin-clipped) tagged, marked untagged, unmarked tagged, and unmarked untagged salmon.<\/li>\n<li>Retrieve CWTs from the snouts of Chinook and Coho salmon to determine stock specific impacts for fisheries modeling.<\/li>\n<li>Sample recreational and\/or commercial salmon catch for biological data including DNA, age (scales), and sex ratios.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<strong>Data review and summary, public relations, maintenance duties:\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Review sampling data for errors.<\/li>\n<li>Provide sport fishing regulatory information to the public.<\/li>\n<li>Liaison to regional supervisor on fishery violations observed in the field.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain sampling equipment.<\/li>\n<li>Operate and maintain an agency vehicle as needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<strong>WORKING CONDITIONS:<\/strong><br \/>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><strong>Work Setting, including hazards:<\/strong>\n<ul type=\"circle\">\n<li>Work is primarily conducted in the field.<\/li>\n<li>May encounter adverse weather and sea conditions, noise, odors, repetitive movements of hands, and finger manipulations.<\/li>\n<li>Long periods of sitting, squatting, walking, and boating for angler interviews.<\/li>\n<li>Climb in and out of boats, sample salmon in a boat, carrying, kneeling, and occasional heavy lifting (up to 40 lbs. unassisted) containers of fish.<\/li>\n<li>Work in confined spaces, be around fish blood and slime, slippery surfaces, biting and stinging insects, and the use of knives.<\/li>\n<li>May transport agency staff and equipment in agency vehicles.<\/li>\n<li>Complete assigned duties and tasks while at sea, especially during rough seas and inclement weather.<\/li>\n<li>Must be able to negotiate water in emergency situations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Schedule:<\/strong>\n<ul type=\"circle\">\n<li>Typically, 8 to 10 hours per day between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m.<\/li>\n<li>24\/7 non-scheduled, 40 hours per week, weekend and evening work is required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Travel Requirements:<\/strong>\n<ul type=\"circle\">\n<li>Travel will occur in the Puget Sound area with seldom overnight travel.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>May be manuals, totes\/bins, data recording equipment (e.g., paper forms, labels, scale cards), personal floatation device (PFD), WDFW apparel, gloves, and rain gear.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Customer Interactions:<\/strong>\n<ul type=\"circle\">\n<li>Interacts with co-workers from WDFW and Tribes, commercial harvester or fishers, salmon buyers, fish processors, recreational anglers and shellfishers.<\/li>\n<li>Interacts daily with the public for fisheries data collection, and provides basic information regarding fishing resources, agency programs and activities, and sport regulations with a high level of customer service.\u00a0May involve interactions with individuals experiencing anger, distress, or frustration.<\/li>\n<li>Liaison with regional supervisor and enforcement on fishery violations observed in the \/><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Graduation from high school or GED, including one (1) year of high school science\u00a0<strong>AND<\/strong>\u00a0two (2) years of experience as a Scientific Technician 1.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<strong>OR<\/strong><br \/>\n<ul>\n<li>Graduation from high school or GED including one (1) year of high school
