Your projects could range from implementing vital recovery strategies and habitat management to tracking species trends, conducting research, and monitoring diseases across diverse taxa.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img class=\"fr-fic fr-dib\" src=\"https:\/\/secure.neogov.com\/images\/AgencyImages\/jobposting\/1924\/jobpostings\/image\/pond.png\" alt=\"Wildlife Diversity Technician - Scientific Tech 2 - Non-Permanent - Two positions - *04714-24 description image\" \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Western Pond Turtle \u2013 Photo credit &#8211; WDFW<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2>Duties<\/h2>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Here is some of what you will be doing,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Use established protocols to complete wildlife surveys including but not limited to:\n<ul type=\"circle\">\n<li>Reptile and amphibian surveys, monitoring, research<\/li>\n<li>Snowy Plover surveys and monitoring<\/li>\n<li>Bat surveys<\/li>\n<li>Insect monitoring and distance sampling<\/li>\n<li>Gopher surveys<\/li>\n<li>Songbird surveys<\/li>\n<li>Additional data collection on species as prioritized<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist with habitat management\/enhancement projects directed toward the recovery of species of greatest conservation need.<\/li>\n<li>Downloading and entering data.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain and organize field equipment and supplies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>WORKING CONDITIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><strong>Work Setting, including hazards:<\/strong>\n<ul type=\"circle\">\n<li>The working environment is primarily composed of field work but does involve field preparation in the office and data management and summarization. Up to 75% of the time will be spent in the field or preparing to go in the field.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>While in the field, the employee should expect to encounter a variety of conditions such as inclement weather, dense understory vegetation, muddy wetlands, slippery river rocks, steep slopes, clear cuts, heat, cold, low light, and biting insects.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Field work requires hiking off-trail at times and bending, ducking, balancing, and crawling through, under, and over dense understory and woody debris as well in caves, bridges, tunnels, and culverts, wetlands, and over exposed terrain.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Navigating and driving on established and dirt\/logging roads located throughout western Washington.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Employees will at times be required to carry a heavy pack (&lt;40 pounds) and haul awkward equipment (e.g., rebar).\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>A small portion of time will be spent in a busy office environment.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Must be able to negotiate water in emergency situations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Schedule:<\/strong>\n<ul type=\"circle\">\n<li>Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, but schedule may change depending on field work needs. The approximate duration of this position is 18 months.
