The\u00a0Pest Program\u00a0<\/strong>conducts surveys, diagnostics and control activities for pests and diseases of important agricultural commodities throughout Washington State. \u00a0Pest Program employees conduct surveys for Northern giant hornet, Japanese beetle, spongy moth, apple maggot, Phytophthora ramorum, Spartina and other invasive insect pests, diseases, and noxious weeds.<\/p>\n
Spongy moth is one of the most destructive forest insect pests introduced into North America posing a tremendous threat to the health of Washington\u2019s forests, parks, and even neighborhood trees. Since 1974, the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) has been monitoring for spongy moth and eradicating introductions of the pest when necessary. Thanks to the efforts of our seasonal survey crew and the cooperation and support of the public, there are currently no established populations of spongy moth in our state.

The\u00a0Insect Pest Trapper<\/strong>\u00a0positions are temporary positions that are expected to last up to four months and begin on\u00a0June 3rd<\/strong>. Trappers typically work Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Trappers work based out of their home office which is close to or within their survey route. Each trapper will be assigned a route that is reasonably accessible from their home. The home address provided on the submitted application will be the default location for your home office. If you wish to be considered for other locations, you need to indicate on your application which area you are interested in working.
