We are hiring one highly motivated internship candidate to join our Surface Water Management team for the\u00a02024 summer season.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><strong>Intern Job Summary<\/strong><br \/>Your internship at Snohomish County will challenge you, sharpen your skills, and start paving your way to a career.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>SWM provides a wide variety of public programs and services to preserve and improve the health of Snohomish County\u2019s water resources and natural systems and to reduce road and property flooding.\u00a0Interns gain hands-on experience under the direction of water resource professionals. \u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><strong>As a Riparian Restoration Intern, you will:<\/strong><br \/><br \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist with outreach to landowners\u00a0in the areas of habitat restoration, riparian buffers, invasive plant identification and eradication, native plant re-establishment, and other practices to maintain and\/or enhance water quality and habitat.<\/li>\n<li>Develop and distribute outreach materials, including postcards, flyers, brochures, etc.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Conduct vegetation monitoring and invasive plant surveys.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Assist with analysis and reporting on habitat restoration project and vegetation monitoring data.<\/li>\n<li>Assist with management of SWM\u2019s Native Plant Nursery.<\/li>\n<li>Work with restoration field crews to complete on-the-ground restoration activities, which may include herbicide application.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<strong>The preferred internship candidates will be:<\/strong><br \/><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<ul>\n<li>Enrolled in a four-year or graduate program in environmental studies, environmental science, environmental policy, communications, marketing, environmental education, or related fields.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledgeable of freshwater ecosystems, plant ecology, and ecological restoration in the Puget Sound region, including some general knowledge of native and invasive plant species.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Capable of communicating effectively in person and in writing.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Experienced doing field work during inclement conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Experienced in collecting vegetation monitoring data.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Interested in pursuing a career in natural resource science, policy, or communication.<\/li>\n<li>Committed to being a helpful, responsive, and dependable teammate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nIdeally interns will be available to start in May or June and work 8 \u2013 12 weeks. The work schedule for this internship is flexible and may be part-time or full-time to accommodate. Preferred candidates will be available to work at least 20 hours per week, with workdays of at least 8 hours to allow for field work.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Position will require reporting to various worksites, including the Snohomish County office in Everett, SWM\u2019s Native Plant Nursery in Lake Stevens, and various project locations throughout Snohomish County. These services are funded by service charges paid by property owners in the unincorporated county.
