See &#8216;Duties&#8217; for additional information.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"usajobs-joa-section--pilot__header usajobs-joa-section--beta__header\">Duties<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Duty location is negotiable between the following locations: Honolulu, HI; Kaua&#8217;i Island; O&#8217;ahu Island; Maui Island; Hawai&#8217;i Island<\/strong>. Placement is at management discretion. If selected, you may be placed at a regional office, field office, current duty station, or other DOI-owned or -leased worksite. Additional questions regarding placement should be reserved for the interview process.<br \/><br \/><strong>Responsibilities:\u00a0<\/strong>As an Ecologist your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Working with a multi-agency partnership to develop and implement a native seed collection, storage, production, and propagation plan to support habitat resiliency and restoration the Pacific Islands and align with the National Seed Strategy.<\/li>\n<li>Working with partner programs and agencies to identify needs and develop and implement shared goals for habitat restoration.<\/li>\n<li>Identifying threats and recovery needs for listed species as well as tools and processes to address them, and develop recovery documents.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"usajobs-joa-section--pilot__header usajobs-joa-section--beta__header\">Requirements<\/h2>\n<h3>Conditions of Employment<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"usajobs-list-bullets\">\n<li>Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.<\/li>\n<li>Resume (See &#8220;Required Documents&#8221;). These hours must have included at least 9 semester hours in ecology, and 12 semester hours in physical and mathematical sciences.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<br \/><u>Minimum Qualification [GS-11]<\/u>\n<ol>\n<li>One year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service performing work in or directly related to ecological science. Examples of qualifying experience may include: (1) participating in field evaluations of the biological status, threats, and conservation needs of high priority plants; (2) conducting habitat surveys or restoration for listed and rare species, with an emphasis on plants; (3) preparing biological reports and management plans; (4) assisting in the development of project or program goals and objectives, with emphasis on plants; (5) coordinating with other agencies, scientists, conservation organizations, local planning agencies, and\/or knowledgeable individuals to obtain and use the best scientific data in assessing the biological and taxonomic status of plants.\u00a0<strong>OR<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Three years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D., or possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, in ecology or directly related fields of study.\u00a0<strong>OR<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>A combination of education and experience as described in 1 and 2 above which together equals 100% of the requirement.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<br \/>Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
