{"id":52504,"date":"2024-02-29T10:06:41","date_gmt":"2024-02-29T18:06:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/?p=52504"},"modified":"2024-02-29T10:07:32","modified_gmt":"2024-02-29T18:07:32","slug":"scholarships-2024-walpa-student-scholarship-due-by-may-1-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/scholarships-2024-walpa-student-scholarship-due-by-may-1-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Scholarships: 2024 WALPA Student Scholarship (Due By: May 1, 2024)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h1><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net\/v\/t39.30808-6\/309063858_462988782537336_8269806198780062977_n.jpg?_nc_cat=100&amp;ccb=1-7&amp;_nc_sid=efb6e6&amp;_nc_ohc=uxwIPzWoGWcAX9_7v7t&amp;_nc_ht=scontent-atl3-1.xx&amp;oh=00_AfAP1IOCxcryYvFF9uc2vqRTMyTRBKNhAOHHVWcQ9idSXw&amp;oe=65E60F0D\" alt=\"No photo description available.\" width=\"291\" height=\"300\"><\/h1>\n<h1>&nbsp;<\/h1>\n<h1>2024 WALPA STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS<\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<h2>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Applications due May 1, 2024<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.walpa.org\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Website<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, the Washington Lakes Protection Association is offering three student scholarships.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Nancy Weller Memorial Scholarship for a Ph.D. graduate student for $1,250.<\/li>\n<li>The Dave Lamb Memorial Scholarship for a M.Sc. graduate student for $1,000.<\/li>\n<li>The WALPA scholarship to an undergraduate student for $500.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>All three scholarships will also provide additional funds to cover registration and two nights\u2019<br>accommodation for each recipient at the annual meeting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Student scholarships will be awarded to further our understanding of the limnology,<br>hydrology, ecology, management, and restoration of lakes in Washington and Idaho.<br>Applicants must be part- or full-time undergraduate or graduate students at an accredited<br>college or university in Washington or Idaho. Recipients shall use scholarship funds to cover<br>expenses directly related to their research. Students are expected to attend the annual<br>conference to present their research findings and interact with the WALPA membership.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>All scholarship applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee, composed of<br>individuals from academia, industry, and government. Committee members who have a<br>personal or institutional affiliation with the applicant will not judge applicants. Student<br>scholarship winners will be selected based on the quality of their research topic, its<br>significance to lake science as described above, its relevance to the applicant\u2019s interests and<br>career goals, and for following the directions below.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Student applicants must provide the following three items:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A statement of research interests and career goals (maximum of 3 pages). The<br>statement must explain why the proposed research is important to the field of<br>limnology and\/or lake management and include an itemized budget and budget<br>justification that explains the intended use of the scholarship funds.<\/li>\n<li>A 1-2 page resume.<\/li>\n<li>Recent transcripts of all college\/university course work (official copies not required).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A letter of recommendation from the student\u2019s academic advisor, should be sent as a PDF file<br>directly to the committee chair.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>All applicants should send materials in a single Adobe Acrobat PDF file clearly identified by<br>the applicant\u2019s last name to Shannon Brattebo, chair of the Scholarship Committee, at<br>shannon.brattebo@tetratech.com. <strong>Applications are due by 11:59 PM on May 1, 2024.<\/strong> The<br>Scholarship Committee will contact applicants in late May to let them know their<br>application\u2019s status.
