Special consideration is given to research efforts of graduate students, first time recipients and underserved individuals or groups, to help develop the careers of botanists with interests in native plants.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Grant Cycle for 2024 is open to receive applications January 1st, 2024.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0The Research &amp; Plant Inventory Committee will award up to $8,000 in grant awards for this cycle.\u00a0 Funding is provided by the generous support from donors to the WNPS Endowment fund and the WNPS Board of Directors.<\/p>\n<h2>\u00a0<\/h2>\n<h2>\u00a0<\/h2>\n<h2>Solicitation for Grant Proposals<\/h2>\n<p>To receive full consideration, proposals should be submitted by midnight,\u00a0<strong>March 1st\u00a0<\/strong>of each year. Proposals should request no more than\u00a0 $2000 . The Committee will review the proposals and awards will be announced by April 1st. In general, half of an award is paid when the proposal is funded and the second half is paid when the project has been completed and a final report has been submitted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Proposals should be no more than 8 pages in length and include the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Title Page (1 page<\/strong><strong>):<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Name, affiliation, contact info (address, email, phone number) of P.I. and all co-PIs<\/li>\n<li>WNPS chapter affiliation of applicant\u00a0 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wnps.org\/membership\">WNPS membership<\/a>\u00a0is required to recieve an award agreement)<\/li>\n<li>Project title<\/li>\n<li>Project location(s)<\/li>\n<li>Short project summary (&lt;100 words)<\/li>\n<li>Total funding request<\/li>\n<li>State if the P.I. is a student (yes\/no), first-time applicant (yes\/no), and\/or represents an underserved community (yes\/no) (e.g., BIPOC, LGTBQ, veteran, person with disabilities)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Narrative (6 pages maximum):<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Introduction<\/strong>: Include objectives and significance of the proposed research, as it relates to the WNPS mission.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Methods<\/strong>: Brief description of study areas, species, techniques, plan for data collection and analysis<\/li>\n<li><strong>Timetable<\/strong>: Using a Gantt chart, show activities (including final reporting) for each quarter (or season). In general, research and reports should be completed with 2 years.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Products<\/strong>: What deliverables will result from the proposed research? Partial funding may be\u00a0offered at the discretion of WNPS.\u00a0Funds are awarded based on our determination of which projects bring the most benefit to Washington&#8217;s native plants and native plant habitats. Preference may be given to students, first time recipient team projects, or chapters and organizations with limited financial resources. Underserved communities and geographic distribution will be considered.<\/p>\n<p>Grant requests from WNPS members on behalf of WNPS chapters, organizations, or individual projects are eligible. Grants are available to WNPS members for amounts between $500 and $2000 for education projects that further the goals of the Society. These grants are funded by WNPS member contributions to support academic\/classroom projects or activities that encourage students to learn about Washington\u2019s native flora, and public education projects linked to gardens, museums, parks and other public displays of or about native plants. Teachers who have been granted awards can serve as mentors for other teachers hoping to do similar projects in their school districts.<\/p>\n<p>This is a competitive grant process. All education grant applications are reviewed carefully by the Education Committee and awarded based on consideration of factors such as the greatest educational benefits, geographical representation, and feasibility of project completion. Preference may be given to students, first time recipient team projects, or chapters and organizations with limited financial resources.
