We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and other\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">CSU<\/span>\u00a0departments to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.<br \/><br \/>To learn more about CEMML\u2019s contributions to land management, our mission, vision, and values, please visit http:\/\/www.cemml.colostate.edu\/.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Position Summary<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Natural Resources Specialist position is available with\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">CSU<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">CEMML<\/span>\u00a0and will be located at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (<span class=\"caps\">JBLM<\/span>), Washington.\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">JBLM<\/span>\u00a0is located 9.1 miles south-southwest of Tacoma, Washington.\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">JBLM<\/span>\u00a0is a training and mobilization center for all services and is the only Army power projection base west of the Rocky Mountains. The facility is under the U.S. Army Joint Base Garrison, and includes the U.S. Army\u2019s Fort Lewis and the U.S. Air Force\u2019s McChord Air Force Base.\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">JBLM<\/span>\u00a0is 90,000 acres with one of the largest remaining intact forest areas in the Puget Sound basin.<br \/>The Specialist will provide technical expertise and field support to natural resource project planning and implementation, data collection, wildlife surveys, habitat improvement, and invasive species management. Work will include Migratory Bird Treaty Act (<span class=\"caps\">MBTA<\/span>) compliance surveys in proposed timber sale areas, fire-line preparation, oak and pine plantings and maintenance, and other work that promotes the recovery\/restoration of disturbed areas, including Rx fire program support.<br \/><br \/>Specific tasks include, but not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Walking up to 8 miles per day in off-trail, rugged terrain through dense forested areas<\/li>\n<li>Using herbicide to treat invasive species<\/li>\n<li>Routine maintenance of handheld equipment (chainsaws, brush-cutters, augers, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Loading\/towing\/operating heavy equipment (tractor, <span class=\"caps\">UTV<\/span>)<\/li>\n<li>Leading teams of volunteers in field work<\/li>\n<li>Driving 4\u00d74 vehicles on unpaved, non-maintained roads<\/li>\n<li>Spending extended periods of time outdoors in inclement weather<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Required Job Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor\u2019s degree in an environmental, natural resources, or relevant field.<\/li>\n<li>Able to do simple equipment maintenance (cleaning, checking fluids, etc.).<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge and familiarity with Pacific Northwest lowland plants, habitats, and restoration management techniques.<\/li>\n<li>Able to walk long distances and work outdoors in adverse weather on rugged terrain.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to navigate in unfamiliar areas using a compass and\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">GPS<\/span>\u00a0app such as field maps or Avenza.<\/li>\n<li>Must be able to follow directions, be comfortable working independently and working collectively with others as a team and maintain safe working standards.<\/li>\n<li>Able to execute protocols for animal and plant surveys, invasive species control, restoration projects, mapping projects, etc.<\/li>\n<li>The successful candidate must be authorized to work in the United States by proposed start date.\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">CEMML<\/span>\u00a0will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.<\/li>\n<li>Must have a valid driver\u2019s license or the ability to obtain a driver\u2019s license by the employment start date.
