May 6th to August 30th (with potential for extension)<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alaska-trails.org\/_files\/ugd\/5679f1_7bb61ff242e144e681e2c68b7835320a.pdf\">Position Description<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Alaska Trails is seeking a Trail Crew Leader who loves working with people and shares our commitment to trail stewardship. After training and preparation, the Trail Crew Leader will work\u00a0 in the Glacier and Seward Ranger Districts of the Chugach National Forest, in Chugach State Park, and various other destinations in South central Alaska. The crew will consist of five employees total and will coordinate with project partners, land managers, and Alaska Trails management on the projects.<\/p>\n<p>Alaska Trails is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt nonprofit organization incorporated in 2003. Alaska Trails\u2019 mission is: Building trails for Alaska\u2019s people, communities, and economy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>POSITION OVERVIEW:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The main function of this position will be to direct the trail crew in performing and completing trail projects &#8211; including ordering supplies, training crew members, and ensuring completion of projects in a timely manner. Some project sites are remote, there fore logistics and problem &#8211; solving will also be a large part of the job.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Oversee crew members on project sites for the season<\/li>\n<li>Plan and prepare for the work including preparation of tools, gear, food, and other necessities<\/li>\n<li>Work closely with land managers and project partners for project planning,\u00a0 preparation, and material needs<\/li>\n<li>Create and foster a culture of safety and inclusion<\/li>\n<li>Ensure the Job Hazard Analysis, Emergency Action Plan, and all weekly metrics\u00a0 are documented and submitted<\/li>\n<li>Ensure all technical work is to standards, including tread construction, drainage\u00a0 structures, and construction of steps, turnpike, and puncheon<\/li>\n<li>Bring skill and interest to the crew<\/li>\n<li>Calmly manage emergency situations following Alaska Trails\u2019 emergency response protocols<\/li>\n<li>Positively represent Alaska Trails\u2019 mission, programs, and membership in all\u00a0 interactions with volunteers, trail users, and others<\/li>\n<li>Report all incidents and close calls affecting the safety, health, and well-being of crew in a timely manner<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Preferred job skills, experience ,and personal traits:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Demonstrated experience leading Trail Crews in the field and back country settings<\/li>\n<li>Experience and desire to work in a remote area of Alaska<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated skills in trail maintenance and trail building<\/li>\n<li>Basic construction and wood working experience<\/li>\n<li>Organizational skills, attention to detail, and technology skills to provide program and administrative support\n<ul>\n<li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and email communication<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Strong interpersonal skills to ensure a fun, safe and inclusive work experience<\/li>\n<li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills &#8211; ability to communicate across multiple channels to internal departments and external partners\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Cultural competency experience and demonstrated ability to work with people of diverse races, ages, genders, abilities, and economic backgrounds<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work independently and contribute to a team effort<\/li>\n<li>Ability to remain calm and manage emergency situations<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work in an outdoor environment and follow minimum impact guidelines<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated flexibility in a dynamic and fast &#8211; paced environment, feeling\u00a0 comfortable with mid course corrections<\/li>\n<li>Current WFR and CPR certifications<\/li>\n<li>Current S212 or equivalent chain saw certification<\/li>\n<li>Valid driver\u2019s license and ability to drive a truck with a trailer on highways and dirt roads<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work weekends and 10-hour days<\/li>\n<li>A strong commitment to Alaska Trails\u2019 mission<\/li>\n<li>Ability to use mechanized equipment for trail construction if necessary<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>To Apply:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Email the following to office@alaska-trails.org :<\/p>\n<p>1. Alaska Trails is seeking\u00a0 applicants for members of two crews in the summer of 2024. Trail Crew members will play a\u00a0 pivotal role in trail maintenance and construction projects through out Alaska.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Position Description: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Trail Crew Members are needed for trail construction and maintenance\u00a0 projects in South central Alaska. Duties include daily hiking in steep, rocky terrain, structure\u00a0 work, and using hand and power tools to maintain and construct sustainable trails. Road-based travel will be necessary on this crew, including week-long hitches. Crew members will be\u00a0 provided a perdiem while working in the field on overnight hitches.
