The Washington State Department of Natural Resources DNR) has exciting opportunities at the Webster Forest Nursery. Join the DNR as a\u00a0<strong>Warehouse Operator 1<\/strong>. \u00a0The Nursery was established in 1957 and consists of 150 acres of bareroot production and 75,000 sq. feet of greenhouses. Annually we ship out over 8 million seedlings for reforestation in the Pacific Northwest. Webster Forest Nursery is hiring Warehouse Operators for both the Bareroot and Greenhouse operation teams. The Warehouse Operator 1 is responsible for assisting with seedling cold storage, cooler inventory, and other daily operational needs. This position supports daily nursery operations by storing tens of thousands of seedlings a day while tracking and maintaining hundreds of inventory codes. The nursery operations team works together to oversee all aspects of seedling packing, storage, order assembly and loading, and container sowing and placement while maintaining accurate records for the nursery operations as well as for customers. The right candidate has previous experience in the daily operation of a forklift and excellent attention to detail. The work performed by this position supports the agency\u2019s mission and guiding principles to manage WA State\u2019s resources for the beneficiaries of the trust so that future generations have the opportunity to enjoy and benefit from Washington\u2019s rich natural heritage.\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt><strong>Duties<\/strong><\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><br \/>The Warehouse Operator 1 will work with either the Bareroot or Greenhouse operations team. All Warehouse Operators will be trusted with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Safe operation of a 3500 \u2013 5000 lb capacity forklift and pallet jacks daily<\/li>\n<li>Communicating with and assisting supervisors and key staff to maintain the flow of seedlings (a perishable product) and inventory integrity for storage and shipment<\/li>\n<li>Friendly and professional interactions with public customers, internal region customers, nursery staff, and trucking personnel<\/li>\n<li>Reliability, good attendance, and punctuality<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nThe Bareroot operations Warehouse Operator 1 is responsible for:\n<ul>\n<li>Assisting with seedling cold storage and cooler inventory in our 22,000 sq. feet of cooler and freezer storage. This position works cooperatively with nursery staff in the packing shed to store over 100,000 seedlings a day. The Warehouse team works together to oversee all aspects of order assembly, truck loading and unloading, and maintaining accurate shipping records for our internal region customers, contract customers, and public customers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nThe Greenhouse operations Warehouse Operator 1 is responsible for:\n<ul>\n<li>Assisting with greenhouse seedling packing and storage as well as tracking and moving sown containers into the greenhouses using equipment like forklifts and ATVs. The Greenhouse team works together to oversee the packing and storage of seedlings, preparation, and sowing of container seedlings, and placing sown containers into the greenhouses while maintaining nursery code and genetics integrity throughout packing and sowing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt><strong>Qualifications<\/strong><\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p><strong>Required Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.<\/li>\n<li>English language proficiency; ability to understand and communicate information.<\/li>\n<li>A minimum of 3-6 months experience with the daily use of a forklift.<\/li>\n<li>Previous experience with basic repair skills (hammer, nail, crowbar).<\/li>\n<li>Need to have reliable and punctual work attendance.<\/li>\n<li>DNR Core Competencies:\n<ul>\n<li>Personal Accountability<\/li>\n<li>Value Others<\/li>\n<li>Compassionate Communication<\/li>\n<li>Inspire Others<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to Excellence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<strong>Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Must pass a forklift skills test administered during the interview process.<\/li>\n<li>Obtain Forklift Certification at the earliest opportunity possible after hire.<\/li>\n<li>Work extended periods driving a forklift, walking, and standing in large cold storage warehouses (including refer trailers) ranging in temperature from refrigeration to freezer over an 8-hour shift. Frequent temperature changes while walking or driving in and out of the cooler into the packing shed or outdoors. Working in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions and the ability to walk over uneven terrain. Frequent lifting of seedling bags, boxes, and other supplies requires the ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs. without the aid of equipment. Working in and around large warehouse equipment requires the ability to effectively communicate in a loud industrial setting. The presence of pedestrian foot traffic is a real and constant hazard in many of the forklift operation areas; safety is always the number one objective.<\/li>\n<li>The normal schedule is Monday \u2013 Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. At times, reporting early or staying late to get the work done is required; notice will be given.
