Travel is required, using your own vehicle, and reimbursed at the current rate established by OFM (Office of Financial Management). Federal holidays are paid and a $50.00\/month cell phone stipend is also available.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duration and Hours:\u00a0<\/strong>30-35 hours per week, but not to exceed 40. This position is funded September 1, 2023 through May 31, 2024 and will be re-evaluated in May 2024 for sustainability based on available funds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Summary:\u00a0<\/strong>The Franklin Conservation District is hiring a classroom-based environmental educator to implement the Wheat Week Program in Pierce County, Washington. Wheat Week Educators provide high-quality environmental and conservation education to students in 4th and 5th grade throughout Washington. Through this work, students gain a better understanding of the science behind complex environmental issues and will become better able to address these issues responsibly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Essential Functions:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Coordinate, schedule, and teach Wheat Week lessons to area schools.<\/li>\n<li>Disseminate information to local school districts and teachers via email and phone.<\/li>\n<li>Provide high-quality and energetic Wheat Week lessons to area schools and school groups.<\/li>\n<li>Assist in the further development of the FCD\u2019s Education and Outreach Programs.<\/li>\n<li>Able to perform and prioritize work tasks with little supervision.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain accurate records of lessons taught, number of students and teachers taught.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain and clean equipment on a daily basis.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to take initiative, work independently, prioritize, and use professional judgment.<\/li>\n<li>Foster positive relationships with school district staff and community partners.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Required Qualification:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor\u2019s degree in elementary education, environmental education, natural resources, or related field<\/li>\n<li>At least one year of experience working in a classroom setting teaching children.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated experience in managing students in hands-on learning either indoors or outdoors.<\/li>\n<li>WSP\/FBI background clearance required.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft and Google (PowerPoint, Excel, Google Drive, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Traits That You Must Possess:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Proactive self-starter. Good judgement and intuition around the subtleties of group dynamics and the impact of your words and actions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Working Conditions\/Physical Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Work is performed primarily in a classroom setting as well as a home office; travel is required to local schools and program sites. Must be able to lift and carry a maximum of 35 pounds.
