The appointment\u00a0is in Davis, California, and there is an opportunity to participate\u00a0remotely. The fellowship will begin in Summer 2023 with a flexible weekly\u00a0schedule and will continue through September 2024 with the potential for an extension contingent on funding.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the heart of the U.S. Forest Service&#8217;s mission is their purpose. To advance the mission and serve their purpose, the U.S. Forest Service balances the short and long-term needs of people and nature by: working in collaboration with communities and our partners; providing access to resources and experiences that promote economic, ecological, and social vitality; connecting people to the land and one another; and delivering world-class science, technology and land management.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Research Project<\/u>:<\/strong>\u00a0We are seeking a qualified candidate to collaborate with\u00a0the USDA Forest Service and partners to investigate subsurface drivers of watershed response to drought. We seek a fellow with interests in\u00a0coupling observational insights from intensively monitored study catchments with remote sensing, hydrological modeling, and\/or machine learning methods to upscale process understanding to large watersheds. Diverse backgrounds will be considered, but candidates with Python programming, remote sensing, hydrological modeling, and\/or machine learning experience will be given preference.
