In addition to building, maintaining, and operating the state highway system, WSDOT operates the largest ferry system in the nation, manages the world&#8217;s longest floating bridge, and recently completed the world&#8217;s widest tunneling project.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><strong>The Opportunity<\/strong><br \/>WSDOT is currently seeking four Highway Maintenance Workers (<a href=\"https:\/\/ofm.wa.gov\/state-human-resources\/compensation-job-classes\/ClassifiedJobListing\/Specifications\/340\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HMW2<\/a>) to join the Incident Response Team in Seattle, WA. This position is critical in reducing congestion by removing incidents as quickly and safely as possible to restore the state highway transportation system to its maximum operational capacity.\u00a0Partnered with Washington State Patrol (WSP) and other emergency responders, these team members will quickly relocate and assist stranded motorists. The Incident Response Team members are WSDOT\u2019s first line of personnel responding to daily emergencies clearing roads and helping drivers.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><strong>What to Expect<\/strong><br \/>Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Patrol designated state highway segments during peak traffic flow periods, locating, marking, quickly relocating and\/or assisting disabled vehicles\/occupants, all focused on keeping the travel lanes open and the traffic flowing.<\/li>\n<li>Operate a class A tow truck equipped with a push bumper, wheel lift, dollies, and a sling system, within the greater Seattle\/Everett metropolitan area, Express Lanes &amp; Floating Bridges. This includes pushing, pulling, and\/or towing disables vehicles to \u201csafe locations\u201d and then providing further assistance (change a flat, jump start, provide gas, ensure necessary tow services are forthcoming, etc.).\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Respond to and coordinate with WSP, Incident Command System (ICS), and emergency responders.<\/li>\n<li>Operate two radio systems for communications (WSP high band and WSDOT 700\/800 MHz).<\/li>\n<li>Provide traffic control.<\/li>\n<li>Provide incident and traffic condition information to the Traffic Management Center.<\/li>\n<li>Utilize the standard statewide incident data tracking.<\/li>\n<li>Identify environmental cleanup needs, arrange for immediate cleanup by qualified personnel, and\/or control and remove incidental amounts of spilled motor vehicle fluids.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications<\/strong><br \/>To be considered for this opportunity, the following are <u>required<\/u>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>High school diploma or GED certification<\/li>\n<li>Two (2) years of experience performing roadway maintenance, heavy equipment operation, truck driving, traffic control, construction, timber operations, or landscaping.<\/li>\n<li>Possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted Class \u201cA\u201d Commercial Driver\u2019s License (CDL) with CDL Endorsement \u201cN\u201d or ability to acquire within 6 months of employment.<\/li>\n<li>Effective communication skills for communicating on multiple radio systems or other electronic devices including computers, in a brief and concise manner.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work primarily outdoors, next to heavy live traffic in all weather conditions during both day and nighttime.
