In addition to building, maintaining, and operating the state highway system, WSDOT operates the largest ferry system in the nation, manages the world&#8217;s longest floating bridge, and recently completed the world&#8217;s widest tunneling project.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><strong>The Opportunity<\/strong><br \/>WSDOT is currently seeking a Transportation Planning Specialist 3 to support the Olympic Region Multimodal Planning unit.\u00a0Reporting to the Fish Passage Senior Planner \u2013 Team Lead,\u00a0the incumbent in this position contributes to project delivery efforts including supporting pre-design on fish passage and other projects;\u00a0participates on corridor and environmental planning studies;\u00a0coordinates with regional planning organizations, local jurisdictions, and tribal nations; and maintains good working relationships with internal and external customers.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>WSDOT\u2019s mission is to provide safe, reliable, and cost-effective transportation options to improve communities and economic vitality for people and businesses. Olympic Region Multimodal Planning\u2019s mission is to undertake short, medium, and long-range planning to ensure WSDOT\u2019s mission is accomplished.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><strong>What to Expect<\/strong><br \/>Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Environmental Planner\u00a0will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identify, coordinate, and conduct the appropriate analysis, technical research, community engagement, and related activities needed to support project pre-design.<\/li>\n<li>Use geographic information systems (GIS) and other computer software to analyze and display geographic information.<\/li>\n<li>Oversee and review consultant work activities and deliverables for compliance with scope, schedule, budget.<\/li>\n<li>Organize and coordinate technical staff work efforts across WSDOT offices and organizations including headquarters, Project Management, Traffic, Project Engineer Offices, and Communications.<\/li>\n<li>Schedule, coordinate, and lead field reviews of project sites with stakeholders.<\/li>\n<li>Produce pre-design documentation such as the Context and Modal Accommodation Report (CMAR), Basis of Design (BOD), and Project Summary packages.<\/li>\n<li>Support management and preparation of major environmental documents such as Planning and Environmental Linkages Studies and Environmental Impact Statements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This position requires occasional travel and field work that involves driving and\/or traveling in a motor vehicle and extended periods of standing in the outdoors.
