This continuous recruitment may be closed at any time.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Have you recently completed or are you currently undergoing course work in\u00a0History, Historic Architecture, Historic Preservation, Cultural Resource Management, Archaeology, Anthropology, or a social science related\u00a0degree?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Department of Fish and Wildlife is Offering:<br \/><\/strong>One (1) paid Internship with a flexible schedule, working 0 &#8211; 40 hours per week. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Anticipated Internship Dates:\u00a0<br \/><\/em><em>June 15, 2023 \u2013 June 15, 2024<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This is an exciting opportunity to showcase your skills and apply your classroom\/cultural resources training to real world scenarios!\u00a0The Cultural Resource Internship provides the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the practical application of cultural resources in an on-the-job environment all while gleaning valuable knowledge from the WDFW Team!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Assist the CAMP<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>archaeologists\u00a0<\/strong>in WDFW\u2019s Cultural Resource Division on projects and provide technical assistance in the field of cultural resources management, particularly for built-environment historic properties.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It gives our team great satisfaction\u00a0<\/strong>to know that they are investing in emerging professionals. It&#8217;s our hope you will carry forward enhanced relationships between the Department and university or professional associations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you are provided this opportunity,\u00a0<\/strong>it is our intent that you will serve as an ambassador to the Department throughout your career as you leave this position and continue your professional path.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duties<br \/><\/strong><strong><em>Some of what you will learn to do,<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Assist CAMP archaeologists in documenting cultural resources<\/strong>:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Perform research and field documentation for historic property inventory forms, archaeological site inventory forms, cultural resource survey, cultural resource monitoring, and writing cultural resource reports.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Evaluate historic built-environment resources by applying National Park Service criteria.<\/li>\n<li>Typical resource types include historic fish hatchery complexes, rail grades, dams, levees, homesteads, farmsteads, and landscapes.<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to cultural resource surveys\/data collection, data entry, equipment preparation, and equipment maintenance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Assist CAMP archaeologist in acquiring necessary cultural clearances to perform project(s):\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist in writing consultation letters for appropriate regulatory agencies and consulting parties.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>WORKING CONDITIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Work Setting, including hazards:\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Substantial time at various field locations throughout Washington &#8211; working in wildlife areas, water, on active construction sites including around large equipment, and on active hatchery sites with hatchery staff.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Work is performed under adverse environmental conditions and occasionally carrying 40 pounds of equipment such as shovels and screens on uneven terrain.<\/li>\n<li>Must be able to negotiate water in emergency situations.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Schedule:<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Hourly position &#8211; variable hours ranging from 0 to 40 hours per week and alternative work schedules including overnight stays are likely.<\/li>\n<li>Remote and telework options may be available when not in the field.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Travel Requirements:\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Substantial field time and travel throughout Washington is required.<\/li>\n<li>Long field days and some overnight stays are likely.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tools and Equipment:\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Pickup trucks, standard office furniture and equipment, GPS units, cameras, and hand tools for digging including shovels and screens.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Customer Interactions:\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Interact with public while accessing work areas. Must be professional, well-spoken, and non-confrontational.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications<br \/><\/strong><strong>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Highschool Diploma or GED.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0AND<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Those that are current college students (enrolled and pursuing a degree)<strong>\u00a0OR<\/strong> those that have recently (within the last six (6) months) completed a degree at an accredited college or university in at least one (1) of the following:\u00a0\n<ol>\n<li>History<\/li>\n<li>Historic Architecture<\/li>\n<li>Historic Preservation<\/li>\n<li>Cultural Resource Management<\/li>\n<li>Archaeology<\/li>\n<li>Anthropology\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Or a Social Science related degree.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Certifications\/Licenses:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>A Valid Driver\u2019s License.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Pursuing a degree in cultural resource management, historic preservation, history, archaeology, or similar discipline.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Working knowledge of:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Microsoft Office package including Word, Excel, and Outlook.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Ability to:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Record accurate and legible field notes by hand or digital devices.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Operate a digital camera including download to computer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Special Requirements\/Conditions of Employment:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Knowledge of general laboratory safety procedures.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to closely follow standard protocols and perform work under moderate supervision.<\/li>\n<li>Familiarity with safety protocols on construction
