Salary and benefits:<\/span><\/strong> This is a full<\/span>–<\/span>time<\/span> position based off of a 40<\/span>–<\/span>hour work week with an hourly<\/span>

seeking<\/span> an<\/span> exceptionally motivated<\/span> and technically skilled foresters\/forestry technicians to work<\/span>
clos<\/span>ely with the US Forest Service in expanding a growing partnership on the Gifford Pinchot<\/span>
National Forest (GPNF).<\/span> The successful candidate<\/span>(s)<\/span> will work with MARS<\/span> and GPNF<\/span> staff to<\/span>
expand<\/span> field capacity in support of the US Forest Service\u2019s stewardship and timber sale<\/span>
program by assisting with pre<\/span>–<\/span>sale<\/span>\/<\/span>sale preparation, sale administration<\/span>, siliviculture<\/span> and stand<\/span>
exam tasks<\/span> primarily on national forest system lands<\/span>.<\/span> The position<\/span>(<\/span>s<\/span>)<\/span> requires a reasonable<\/span>
level of experience<\/span> with<\/span> field forestry skills<\/span> necessary to support<\/span> federal stewardship\/timber<\/span>
programs<\/span>.<\/span> T<\/span>he<\/span> successful candidate will<\/span> be attracted to the<\/span> unique collaborative effort between<\/span>
a community<\/span>–<\/span>based forestry organization and a federal agency.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
Presale<\/span> P<\/span>rogram<\/span> related<\/span><\/strong><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> Perform timber and stewardship sale boundary layout, considering environmental<\/span>
assessment design criteria, logging systems\/operability, economic viability, stand<\/span>
conditions and objectives, etc.<\/span> Uti<\/span>lize Forest Service marking guides to implement site<\/span>
specific silvicultural prescriptions.<\/span> May utilize Forest Service \u201cDxP\u201d and \u201cDxD\u201d<\/span>
prescriptive methods as well as more conventional leave and cut<\/span>–<\/span>tree marking.<\/span> Will<\/span>
identify areas of no treatment (skips<\/span>, no<\/span>–<\/span>cut buffers, etc) and heavier treatment (heavy<\/span>
thins, gaps, etc).<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> Identify logging system breaks and be able to accurately map them for appraisal<\/span>
purposes.<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> Field verify and identify temporary road locations to facilitate harvest unit operations.<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> Cruis<\/span>e timber using Forest Service and Region 6 specific cruising methods and<\/span>
standards.<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> GPS traversing of timber and stewardship sale boundaries.<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> Painting and tagging timber and stewardship sale boundaries.<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> Utilize Esri software (ArcMap, ArcPro, etc) to make w<\/span>ork maps as necessary.<\/span><\/span>
\u2022<\/span> Utilize tablets and resource grade GPS hardware and software.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u2022<\/span> Assist Forest Service Timber Sale Administrators with compliance on timber and
<\/span>stewardship sales:<\/span> recommending skid trail and skyline corridors for<\/span> approval, tallying
<\/span>additional volume, assisting with inspections on stewardship service items, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\u2022<\/span> Install stand exam plots across a wide range of vegetation types; collecting stand and<\/span>
site data (species, stocking, diameters, heigh<\/span>ts, plant assoc, etc) to be used in future<\/span>
environmental analysis.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
as<\/span> representing MARS in<\/span> project specific communications on a<\/span> regular basis.<\/span> O<\/span>utside of the<\/span>
field season<\/span> the successful candidate will continue<\/span> support to the Gifford Pinchot N.F. or Mt.<\/span>
Adams Resource Ste<\/span>wards<\/span> on additional<\/span>\/<\/span>special projects that serve to advance<\/span> USFS needs or<\/span>
Mt. Adams Resource Stewards\u2019 efforts that focus on community<\/span>–<\/span>based natural resource<\/span>
management strategies to advance our mission of sustainable connections between the land<\/span>
and local<\/span> communities across one of the more spectacular landscapes in the Pacific Northwest.<\/span>
