Therefore, if a qualified applicant from within the bargaining unit applies, that person may be selected for the position<\/em><br \/><br \/>This classification is responsible for evaluating the acceptability of incoming waste, assessing fees and maintaining records at solid waste and transfer stations to insure appropriate disposal of waste and fair assessment of fees to public and to perform maintenance and basic repairs at solid waste work sites. Incumbents in this classification may be scheduled at the transfer station sites as needed for appropriate staffing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examples of Duties<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Evaluate, measure, weigh and determine charge for waste for public and commercial contractor, to use the transfer stations scales<\/li>\n<li>Record, balance and maintain accurate records of fees collected<\/li>\n<li>Provide information and assistance to public regarding solid waste services available\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Maintain and work in the Household Hazardous Waste Area<\/li>\n<li>Maintain solid waste transfer station in a clean state, safe for operations, including litter and debris.<\/li>\n<li>Monitors recycle areas for proper disposal of recyclable items<\/li>\n<li>Report any problems to the Program Manager\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This classification requires the incumbent to be able to work independently and often alone; physically and mentally perform the essential functions; understand and communicate the laws, rules and regulations regarding disposition of solid waste, recyclable and hazardous waste; accurately collect receipt and record fees; provide information and materials to the public either in person or on the phone; perform basic repair functions on buildings and equipment. The nature of the work is recurring with occasional variations from the norm; the incumbent is expected to use good judgment within established guidelines and procedures.
