Conduct creel surveys during fisheries within the upper Columbia River system and perform fish population surveys and fish stocking for Lake Chelan and tributaries. If this sounds like the perfect opportunity for you then apply today and join the WDFW Team!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Picture yourself\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><em>conducting creel surveys on lakes and streams to gather information on angler usage and harvest.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>These are opportunities\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><em>to identify fish species, take various measurements, check for marks and tags (fin clips, \u00a0Floy and\/or \u00a0PIT tags).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>The optimal applicants<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0are team players who take pride in their work, are motivated, dependable, respectful, and able to easily establish rapport.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>We are seeking candidates\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>who respect and value the opinions of others, creating an inclusive team environment where every member feels they contribute value to the project and WDFW.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duties<br \/><\/strong><strong>Conducts creel surveys on lakes and streams to gather information on angler usage and harvest. \u00a0Tasks include, but are not limited to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Working extensively with the public to collect information on fisheries.<\/li>\n<li>Includes use of roving creel surveys, total and\/or index counts, and interviewing individual anglers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Performs sampling fish metrics. Tasks include, but are not limited to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Collecting snouts for analysis, taking scales and\/or otoliths for age studies, and occasionally capturing fish by hook and line.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Conduct fish abundance surveys in small tributary waters. \u00a0 Tasks include, but are not limited to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Setting and maintaining block netting, collecting environmental data to include stream section length, average stream width and water temperature.<\/li>\n<li>Collecting fish biological data and samples to include scales, tissue samples, length, weight, and species determination.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>WORKING CONDITIONS:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Work Setting, including hazards:<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Field office is in Wenatchee \u2013 work is performed in all types of weather high percentage of time being spent in vehicles, conducting surveys primarily walking\/hiking to rivers and lakes to conduct angler interviews and effort counts.<\/li>\n<li>Lifting and sampling salmon multiple times a day during peak fishing season \u2013 some salmon may weigh around 40 lbs. in inclement weather and walking short distances on uneven ground, wading, and rocky river environments<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Schedule:<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Schedule is variable, adjusted according to need.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Usually five days per week, 24\/7 schedule &#8211; weekend work required.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Travel Requirements:<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Daily travel in WDFW issued vehicles up to 2,500 miles per month.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tools and Equipment:<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Knife for removing fish snouts, boots, waders, electronic tag detectors, GPS units.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Customer Interactions:<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Extensive work with the public in conducting interviews and informing anglers of rules and regulations.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications<br \/><\/strong><strong>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Graduation from high school or GED, including one year of high school science<strong>\u00a0AND<\/strong> Two (2) years of experience as a Scientific Technician 1.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 OR\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Graduation from high school or GED including one year of high school science <strong>AND\u00a0<\/strong>Two (2) years of laboratory or field experience as an assistant to a biologist, chemist, or zoologist. \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Please Note:<\/strong>\u00a0College course work involving major study in biology, zoology, fisheries, chemistry, natural sciences, or closely allied field will substitute, year for year, for experience, provided the course work includes at least six semester or nine quarter hours of natural science classes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Certifications\/Licenses:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Valid driver\u2019s license.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Experience conducting creel surveys on resident and\/or anadromous fish species in stream and lake environments.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of both resident and anadromous fish species.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Working knowledge of stream and\/or lake fish surveys.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:\u00a0<\/strong>WDFW requires all employees to be fully vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine as a condition of employment. \u00a0You will be required to provide proof of vaccination as part of the hiring process.
