The primary focus of this position is to investigate environmental health complaints related to improper disposal of solid waste. The purpose is to protect public health and occasionally requires enforcement action to include issuing notices and taking legal action to achieve compliance. Work is performed both in an office and field setting requiring the employee to work in all weather conditions.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>EXAMPLES OF DUTIES<\/u><\/strong> <em>(any one position may not include all for the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions in the class)<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monitors regulated activities for compliance with policies and<\/li>\n<li>Investigates complaints, generating corrective notices or penalties as needed for<\/li>\n<li>Inspects licensed establishments and businesses for compliance in health and safety<\/li>\n<li>Performs field sampling for water quality analysis and<\/li>\n<li>Assists the public with permit and construction processes and questions concerning<\/li>\n<li>May represent the department at<\/li>\n<li>Interprets federal, state, and local regulations relating to environmental<\/li>\n<li>Reviews applications and designs for compliance with policies and codes for plats, subdivisions, SEPA, solid waste sites, septic permits, school plans, food permits, public water systems, and building<\/li>\n<li>Conducts inspections of new building sites, wells, existing sewage systems, public schools, public water systems, and food service establishments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS<br \/><\/u><\/strong><strong>EHS<\/strong>: Bachelors degree, preferably in a life science, environmental health or a related field is preferred.<\/p>\n<p><strong>EHS Senior<\/strong>: Same as EHS, with 5 years\u2019 experience working for an Environmental Health jurisdiction.<\/p>\n<p>Must possess a valid Washington State Driver\u2019s License with good driving record.
