All work must ensure safety, integrity, cleanliness, and aesthetic appeal, as well as meet customer needs and City standards. Some weekend work may be required. <strong>This is a full-time, seasonal position with a start date of March 1, 2023 and end date of November 30, 2023.\u00a0<\/strong>This position reports to the Natural Resources Project Manager and Parks Operations Manager.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Essential Job Functions<\/span><br \/><\/strong><strong>Work independently and with full-time Park Maintenance Team Members to perform routine tasks in City parks, including:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Must be able to work independently and on a team.<\/li>\n<li>Make field decisions about project execution and task prioritization.<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate scheduling and project material needs with supervisor.<\/li>\n<li>Visually inspect trails and perform repairs and routine maintenance including brushing, laying gravel, creating, and repairing drainage systems, and building steps in accordance with City plans and specifications, and generally accepted\u00a0practices.<\/li>\n<li>Construct\u00a0trails\u00a0according\u00a0to\u00a0approved\u00a0plans\u00a0and\u00a0specifications,\u00a0and\u00a0generally accepted\u00a0practices.<\/li>\n<li>Navigate off-trail in forested backcountry settings to evaluate plant cover and conduct invasive plant control.<\/li>\n<li>Planting and plant materials\u00a0handling.<\/li>\n<li>Weeding, watering and other horticultural\u00a0activities.<\/li>\n<li>Herbicide application (spraying, swabbing and\u00a0injection).<\/li>\n<li>Thorough work tracking, documentation, and note taking for restoration and trails projects.<\/li>\n<li>Train and work with crew employees to carry out\u00a0duties.<\/li>\n<li>Lead 2-3 member seasonal crew in trail maintenance and habitat restoration tasks, including delegating work and managing crew time effectively.<\/li>\n<li>Support\u00a0and\u00a0possibly\u00a0work\u00a0with\u00a0a\u00a0wide\u00a0variety\u00a0of\u00a0volunteer\u00a0groups\u00a0on\u00a0restoration\u00a0and\u00a0trail\u00a0projects.<\/li>\n<li>Properly use hand tools and motorized\u00a0equipment.<\/li>\n<li>Install, repair, and maintain irrigation\u00a0systems.<\/li>\n<li>Small engine maintenance and\u00a0troubleshooting.<\/li>\n<li>Light construction and carpentry\u00a0projects.<\/li>\n<li>Provide excellent customer service to Park\u00a0users.<\/li>\n<li>Other duties as assigned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Qualification Requirements<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>High school education or\u00a0equivalent.<\/li>\n<li>At least 1 year professional experience in trail maintenance, trail building, and habitat restoration.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>WSDA Pesticide license public operator or ability to obtain within 8 weeks of hiring.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to assess site conditions and estimate the scope of work for various sites based on the program\u2019s goals and objectives.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to apply a working knowledge of best management practices to various field situations to achieve the scope of work.<\/li>\n<li>Working familiarity with the tools and techniques associated with trail work and\u00a0restoration.<\/li>\n<li>Regional native and invasive plant\u00a0identification.<\/li>\n<li>Must be self-motivated and have a positive\u00a0attitude.<\/li>\n<li>Must\u00a0have\u00a0regular\u00a0and\u00a0predictable\u00a0work\u00a0attendance\u00a0to\u00a0fulfill\u00a0the\u00a0essential\u00a0functions\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0job.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work well with others, stay on task, and take direction from \u00a0 supervisors.<\/li>\n<li>Good verbal communication skills (listening, giving feedback and speaking up), as well as effective interpersonal and customer relation skills are essential in a team\u00a0environment.<\/li>\n<li>Basic writing skills, along with the ability to perform basic arithmetic\u00a0calculations.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to use a smart phone or\u00a0tablet.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to practice safety by wearing appropriate protective clothing, using safety equipment, and\u00a0follow good housekeeping and safety\u00a0procedures.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to safely back up a trailer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Licensure\/Certification<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Valid WA State Driver\u2019s License with a driving record free from frequent or serious violations. A three (3) year driving record abstract must be submitted prior to hire.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>CPR and First Aid certification is required within 30 days of hire.<\/li>\n<li>Specific positions may have other certification requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Working Conditions &amp; Physical Abilities<br \/><\/strong><\/span>Seasonal employees risk physical hazards from working in forests and other remote locations, around traffic, heavy machinery, and heights. Exposure to noise, vibration, hazardous and toxic materials is routine. Work requires physical strength and agility necessary to perform heavy manual labor under all kinds of weather conditions. Work activities include combinations of sitting, standing, and walking and the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds as required. Seasonal employees must be able to see, hear and smell in order to detect problems and be responsive to their own safety, as well as that of fellow employees. Seasonal employees must follow appropriate safety procedures and use of protective clothing and equipment including, steel-toed shoes and boots (must provide own steel-toed boots\/shoes), hard hats, eye\/ear protection, rain gear, gloves, traffic control equipment.
