While the majority of the internship will be spent assisting the Education Coordinator by providing hands-on field trips to K-12 school groups, leading beach investigations, and delivering marine programs for the community; this position will require staffing the information desk, helping in facilities maintenance, and assisting with administrative projects.<br><br><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES<\/strong><\/span><br>\u25cf Attend all Education Team meetings and trainings.<br>\u25cf Lead a variety of environmental education programs for the public, including but not limited to, hands-on dissections, low tide investigations, plankton tows, and short lectures on such topics as marine biodiversity, water quality and estuaries; For a description of each program that we offer, please visit <a href=\"https:\/\/pugetsoundestuarium.org\/education\/\">https:\/\/pugetsoundestuarium.org\/education\/<\/a>;<br>\u25cf Create, document, and organize lesson plans, assessments, and evaluations in a professional manner by shadowing and learning from the current Estuarium staff, and by independent research.<br>\u25cf Assist with other duties as necessary, including working at the information desk, facilities maintenance, and the Estuarium Office;<br>\u25cf Foster learning opportunities that inspire people of all ages to connect with, protect, and enjoy the unique estuary environment of south Puget Sound<br>\u25cf Assist with special events activities including facility events, lectures, and hosting visiting groups of students and scouts;<br>\u25cf Other duties as assigned.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Field Trips<\/strong><\/span><br>\u25cf On the Water (May)<br>\u25cf Estuary Life and Landforms (Oct)<br>\u25cf Classroom Robotics at Bud Bay (CRABB) (Mar)<br>\u25cf Capitol Land Trust (Spring\/Fall)<br>\u25cf Meet the Beach (Spring\/Summer\/Fall)<br>\u25cf Estuarium (All year)<br>\u25cf Estuary Explorers Spring Tide and Summer Camp<br>\u25cf STEM Programs with Together!<br><br><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Education Events<\/strong><\/span><br>\u25cf South Sound Green Student Congress<br>\u25cf South Sound GREEN Nearshore Program<br>\u25cf Expanding Horizons<br>\u25cf Squaxin Tribe Partnership<br><br><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>All Ages Programs<\/strong><\/span><br>\u25cf Pier Peer (all year)<br>\u25cf Bird Walk (spring-fall)<br>\u25cf Sea Stroll (spring-fall)<br>\u25cf Meet the Beach (spring-summer)<br>\u25cf Estuarium interpreter (all year)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/span><br>\u25cf Currently enrolled in college course in environmental or marine biology field, education, communications, natural resource management, business or public administration, or related field,<br>\u25cf or Recent graduate in fields listed above.<br>\u25cf Excellent listening and communication skills. Good public speaking skills; comfortable speaking to diverse groups of people.<br>\u25cf Excels at working with a wide variety of community members\/volunteers.<br>\u25cf Interpersonal skills essential for working collaboratively with staff, board, donors, partners, and the regional community.<br>\u25cf Computer proficiency with knowledge of MS Office applications.<br>\u25cf Ability to be self-directed and work within a team environment.<br>\u25cf Ability to work in physically challenging environments including long periods exposed in extreme temperatures and field conditions while keeping an upbeat personality.<br>\u25cf Ability to lift 40 lbs.<br>\u25cf Must possess a valid Driver\u2019s License.<br>\u25cf CLEAN Background check is required before selection.<br>\u25cf Previous work as an educator and developing STEM, NGSS, Common Core, and NOAA Ocean Literacy aligned curriculum desired.<br>\u25cf Current First Aid\/CPR certified or ability to become certified after hire.<\/p>\n<p>Applicant will use their own personal computer as well as the Estuarium\u2019s desktop, and easily learn new computer programs\/apps.
