Contact information below).<br \/>Under general supervision of the Planning Manager, planners generally assist the public on permitting, land use, and regulatory issues as well as review and process building and land use permits. Position levels are distinguished in a job series of professional planners performing complex or sensitive job duties with levels of supervision ranging from high to minimal.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>EXAMPLES OF DUTIES<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide assistance to public on permitting, land use, and regulatory issues.<\/li>\n<li>Research and analyze regulations for development, construction and land use issues.<\/li>\n<li>Review and process building permits and other ministerial and administrative decisions.<\/li>\n<li>Review and\/or process special reports prepared as part of the permit process.<\/li>\n<li>Review, process, and prepare or assist in the preparation of staff reports for quasi-judicial permits.<\/li>\n<li>Prepare and present permit information to Hearing Examiner.<\/li>\n<li>Perform site visits and investigate complaints. Assist, coordinate and\/or staff advisory commissions, committees, or boards and presents reports and recommendations to them.<\/li>\n<li>Present information at public hearings and other public forums.<\/li>\n<li>Perform as subject matter expert, advise other planners, and represent department before administrative and judicial bodies.<\/li>\n<li>Create procedures and\/or draft ordinances for consideration in areas of expertise.<\/li>\n<li>Assist senior planning staff with complex cases and with planning projects or programs by gathering and analyzing data, assisting in the preparation of reports and other documents, and providing recommendations.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain accurate and updated information on permit tracking data base systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS<\/strong><\/span><br \/>Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job. <strong>A typical was to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Planner Associate:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A bachelor\u2019s degree in planning, architecture, environmental or natural science or other closely related field.<\/li>\n<li>Experience working in a planning department for a city or county in Washington State preferred.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Senior Planner:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A bachelor\u2019s degree in planning, architecture, environmental or natural science or other closely related field.<\/li>\n<li>A Master\u2019s degree in planning or closely related field preferred.<\/li>\n<li>AICP certification preferred.<\/li>\n<li>Five Years\u2019 Experience as a Planner Associate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/span><br \/><strong>Knowledge of:<\/strong> Planning principles, codes, regulations and procedures related to the planning process.<br \/><br \/><strong>Ability to:<\/strong> Communicate effectively with the public, co-workers, supervisors, and other professionals. Ability to use a computer, software packages and mainframe database systems. Perform duties accurately and timely. Manage competing duties and occasionally heavy workloads. Record data accurately and consistently. Interpret and apply codes and regulations. Work within established guidelines with limited supervision. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees in the department and other county departments.
