{"id":48014,"date":"2023-01-12T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-01-12T15:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/?p=48014"},"modified":"2023-01-11T14:19:55","modified_gmt":"2023-01-11T22:19:55","slug":"assistantship-social-dimensions-of-offshore-wind-energy-university-of-connecticut-dept-of-geography-mansfield-ct","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/assistantship-social-dimensions-of-offshore-wind-energy-university-of-connecticut-dept-of-geography-mansfield-ct\/","title":{"rendered":"Assistantship: Social Dimensions of Offshore Wind Energy, University of Connecticut &#8211; Dept. of Geography (Mansfield, CT)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: center\"><em><strong>Social Dimensions of Offshore Wind Energy<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Salary: <\/strong>this appointment includes a tuition waiver and research stipend of up to $27,850\/year for up to three years with the possibility of additional funding for the summer.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Project Co-PIs and PhD Advisors:\u00a0<\/strong>Nat Trumbull, Carol Atkinson-Palombo, and Syma Ebbin<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Study purpose<\/span><br \/><\/strong> The graduate student will be mentored to undertake the following tasks:\u00a0 <br \/>1) monitoring the academic literature and media for developments in the offshore wind industry and preparing review(s) of existing literature related to social dimensions of offshore wind energy; <br \/>2) designing and conducting in-depth quantitative\u00a0and qualitative research (e.g., surveys, interviews, focus groups) to identify the complex factors that shape community acceptance of offshore wind infrastructure and how these change over time; <br \/>3) collecting and providing analyses of survey and other data; <br \/>4) preparing presentations of findings for conferences, workshops, seminars, and lectures; <br \/>5) serving as co-author for multiple peer-reviewed paper submissions; and <br \/>6) engaging in the preparation of external funding proposal.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Project Period:<\/strong> 8\/25\/2023 &#8211; 8\/24\/2026<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Project Sites\/Collaborations:<\/strong> University of Connecticut, across Avery Point and Storrs campuses<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Preferred qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">M.A. in Geography or related fields<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Interest in renewable energy related research<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Strong communication skills (in written and spoken English)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Interest in working on a topic impacting coastal communities and New England at large<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>PhD Dissertation:<\/strong> There is tremendous potential and ample opportunity to develop a unique, yet related, PhD topic from this project with the variety of data collected and topics addressed in this project, or related to research collaborations with other investigators at UConn.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Application Process and Deadline<\/strong><\/span><br \/>Interested students should\u00a0contact Dr. Nat Trumbull at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:trumbull@uconn.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"0\">trumbull@uconn.edu\u00a0<\/a>and include a CV and brief expression of interest by January 20, 2023.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The departmental deadline for applications for Fall 2023 graduate admissions with consideration for receiving this funding opportunity is January 20, 2023.
