{"id":47986,"date":"2023-01-09T09:30:00","date_gmt":"2023-01-09T17:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/?p=47986"},"modified":"2023-01-06T09:25:09","modified_gmt":"2023-01-06T17:25:09","slug":"volunteer-2023-county-park-host-mason-county-parks-department-belfair-wa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/volunteer-2023-county-park-host-mason-county-parks-department-belfair-wa\/","title":{"rendered":"Volunteer: 2023 County Park Host, Mason County &#8211; Parks Department (Belfair, WA)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Mason County Parks Department is recruiting a Park Host for Sandhill Park<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Sandhill Park 1000 NE Sandhill Rd<br \/>Belfair, WA 98528<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square\">\n<li>The County provides an RV site, water, power, and septic at no charge.\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle\">\n<li><strong><em>This is the only compensation.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Park Host is responsible for opening and closing park, site security, customer service, and light maintenance duties in return for the free RV space.\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle\">\n<li>Park Host needs their own camper, trailer, or motorhome.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Volunteer Park Hosts assist park staff with routine visitor services such as greeting guests, answering questions, clean-up, general maintenance, and dispensing information in exchange for free use of area for self-contained recreational vehicle.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Expectations<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\u2022 Maintain clean, orderly RV site.<br \/>\u2022 Check with the Mason County Parks staff before adding any additional structures or storage containers at your site. Any plants must be grown in portable containers.<br \/>\u2022 Do not perform vehicle maintenance at your site.<br \/>\u2022 County equipment cannot be used for personal use.<br \/>\u2022 Only camping and recreational equipment may be in public view; all other equipment must be stored out of sight.<br \/>\u2022 It is not appropriate to consume alcohol while on County Park property. Confine any alcohol consumption to inside your RV.<br \/>\u2022 Successfully pass a criminal history check.<br \/>\u2022 No smoking.<br \/>\u2022 Must have cell phone or means to contact County staff and emergency response<br \/>\u2022 Avoid offensive language or conduct.<br \/>\u2022 Avoid displaying signs, decals, bumper stickers, posters that express political or religious viewpoints.<br \/>\u2022 Conducting business such as selling items\/products\/services for pay in the park is prohibited unless allowed by separate contract with Mason County.<br \/>\u2022 All dogs must have current rabies certificates. Scoop and leash laws apply at all times. Pets must never be left unattended.<br \/>\u2022 Do not accept responsibility for supervising park visitor\u2019s children.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Duties<\/strong><\/span><br \/>County budgets and the time of the year determine park staffing and current operations, but also what duties the Parks staff will be requesting you to perform. A host during one month may be asked to pick up litter and weed areas, plus greet visitors, while another host may be asked to provide surveillance, check restrooms and close gates in the evenings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some of the duties may include:<\/strong><br \/>\u2022 Greeting and assisting visitors, informing them of Park rules, answering questions and receiving comments about the park and surrounding area.<br \/>\u2022 Distributing maps, brochures, and facility information to individuals and groups.<br \/>\u2022 Replenishing restroom and facility supplies when Park staff is not present or unable to do so. Hosts may be requested to help make sure restroom facilities have adequate toilet paper and floors are picked up or swept, or light bulbs are functioning and replaced when needed.<br \/>\u2022 Promoting care of the Park by keeping a clean site and performing minor maintenance tasks such as picking up litter or light duties as outlined by Park staff. Clean facilities and grounds actually help prevent the spread of litter, in addition to providing a welcome sight to visitors.<br \/>\u2022 Being a visible representative of the Park with a sufficient and comfortable knowledge of Park rules and surrounding area activities so you can explain rules plus provide information to visitors.<br \/>\u2022 Opening and closing the park gate.<br \/>\u2022 Being observant for activities within the Park requiring immediate attention. Contacting Parks staff and\/or law enforcement when emergencies occur. Remember: You are responsible for minor enforcement of park rules such as alcohol use, rowdy behavior, loud music, etc. You are not responsible for dealing with major items that would be dealt with by law enforcement.<br \/>\u2022 Picking up litter in and around the park<br \/>\u2022 Performing grounds maintenance<br \/>\u2022 Inspecting park grounds<br \/>\u2022 Inspecting, cleaning, and stocking restroom<br \/>\u2022 Raking leaves in the fall<br \/>\u2022 Monitoring special events<br \/>\u2022 Opening and closing entry gate<br \/>\u2022 Clipping brush out of the way<br \/>\u2022 Reporting any damaged tables, trees, or posts to staff<br \/>\u2022 Turning on and off water system for park<br \/>\u2022 Checking and moving sprinklers<br \/>\u2022 Moving or cleaning up around garbage cans<br \/>\u2022 Sweeping cobwebs off buildings<br \/>\u2022 Straightening site posts<br \/>\u2022 Keeping bulletin board information up-to-date<br \/>\u2022 Hosing down buildings and signs<br \/>\u2022 Pruning shrubs and trees, if qualified<br \/>\u2022 Trimming or weeding grass<br \/>\u2022 Minor repairs to picnic tables, buildings<br \/>\u2022 Help with monitoring groups camping at the park who have been issued a Special Use Camping Permit.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Appearance\/Identification<\/strong><\/span><br \/>As a Volunteer Host, you will be asked to wear a County Parks and Trails Department identification badge that will identify you as a Volunteer Host to park visitors. Please wear your I.D. badge only while you are on duty.
