Field work is primarily systematic distance-based line transect surveys with possibly some very limited live trapping for mark-recapture or genetic studies. <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"field-item even\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>General Information<br><\/strong><\/span>Applicants must be able to work outdoors under a range of environmental conditions, hike for 4+ hours across moderate terrain, follow established protocols, be flexible, and have good eyesight and high frequency hearing to effectively detect small mammals with or without reasonable accommodations. All positions are full-time (40 hours\/week). Weekly work schedule is entirely weather-dependent. Applicants must be willing to flex their workdays and work a split shift most days. Training in conducting surveys and capturing and handling ground squirrels is provided. <br><br><strong>Housing provided in shared bunkhouse, cabins, or camp trailer in Council or Bear, Idaho. <\/strong><br><strong>Work vehicle provided.<\/strong> <br><br><strong>Dates Needed:<\/strong><br>\u2022 April 3 to June 10, 2022 \u2013 (2 positions)<br>\u2022 April 3 to July 22, 2022 \u2013 (2 positions)<\/p>\n<p class=\"field-item even\"><strong>Responsibilities: <\/strong>Technicians will be part of a 4\u20135-person crew conducting line-transect distance-based surveys. Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate field records, entering and proofing survey and waypoint data, tracking progress on completing target surveys, and data summary.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Qualifications: <\/strong>It is preferred that applicants have a B.S. degree in biological sciences, natural resources, or related field, with some field experience OR demonstrated field experience with small mammal surveys or trapping. Some experience with ArcMap is preferred for the 3 April \u2013 22 July position. Some experience driving 4WD pickup trucks is also preferred.
