skills and share your knowledge with others?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>You will have lead responsibility for conducting stock assessment activities in the Snohomish watershed including spawning rowing pontoon boats and piloting the jet sled for District 13!<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>You thrive on building collaboration and teamwork,<\/em><\/strong> training and educating seasonal and temporary staff in proficient operation of watercraft and the ability to work well with a wide variety of people.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>You are excited to<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0get in the water and snorkel for adult salmon counts, steelhead resights, deploying nets for capture of fish for sampling, and\/or snorkel for juvenile salmon presence\/absence observations.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Duties<\/strong><\/span><\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p><strong><em>Our Snohomish Watershed Technician,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Leads spawning ground surveys and sampling efforts.<\/li>\n<li>Plans and conducts surveys using discretion in selecting or modifying techniques and timing of surveys based on priority and environmental<\/li>\n<li>conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Trains and educates seasonal and temporary staff on work unit procedures and priorities.<\/li>\n<li>Addresses private landowner concerns relative to work unit activities.<\/li>\n<li>Leads and directs biological sampling activities including collecting age structures, hatchery mark information, and genetic samples, from salmon and steelhead encountered on spawning grounds, hatchery, and angler creel.<\/li>\n<li>May perform hook and line surveys.<\/li>\n<li>Works to maximize carcass recovery and sampling efforts.<\/li>\n<li>Pilots powered watercraft.<\/li>\n<li>Gathers data in rivers via snorkeling to identify, count and\/or collect fish, and\/or deploy and inspect field gear.<\/li>\n<li>Accurately summarizes and reports field data in a timely manner.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>WORKING CONDITIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Work Setting, including hazards:<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Primarily field work in rivers and streams walking up to 8 miles in rugged terrain in and out of the water, floating in rafts or boats in variable flow conditions and weather.<\/li>\n<li>Includes snorkeling in cold, fast flowing water.<\/li>\n<li>Must be able to negotiate water in emergency situations.<\/li>\n<li>Good watercraft handling and trailering skills and the ability to operate motorized vessels safely in inclement weather in a variety of stream flow conditions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Schedule:<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Eight hours per day, five days per week.<\/li>\n<li>Occasional weekend hours.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Travel Requirements:<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Adhesion to agency vehicle operation policies.<\/li>\n<li>Daily travel in agency assigned vehicle from assigned duty station to field sampling locations.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tools and Equipment:<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Project inventory.<\/li>\n<li>Agency provided vehicles (trucks, boats and trailers), exposure<\/li>\n<li>apparel (waders\/boots, raincoat, drysuit and snorkel gear, hat, gloves), backpack, pike staff, sampling implements, and instruments including gps and satellite locators.<\/li>\n<li>Agency laptop, phone, and data tablet.<\/li>\n<li>Trail maintenance equipment including chainsaw, machete and loppers.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Customer Interactions:<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Interacts with WDFW staff, tribes, other government agencies, and the public.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/dd>\n<dt><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Qualifications<\/strong><\/span><\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p><strong>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:<br \/><\/strong>College course work involving major study in biology, zoology, fisheries, chemistry, natural sciences, or closely allied field may substitute year for year for experience, provided the course work includes at least six semester or nine quarter hours of natural science classes.<\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Graduation from high school or GED including one year of high school science, and four (4) years of experience as a Scientific Technician.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>-Or-<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Graduation from high school or GED including one year of high school science, and four (4) years of laboratory or field experience as an assistant to a biologist, chemist, or zoologist. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>License:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Valid driver\u2019s license.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Experience with:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Operating a raft, drift boat, pontoon and\/or jet sled in rivers or streams.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Training:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Successful completion of agency training and\/or certification for assigned watercraft dependent on supervisory direction, position need, and training availability.<\/li>\n<li>WDFW snorkel training and certification, with completion within 6 months of hire and renewal expected annually.<\/li>\n<li>First Aid\/CPR within 6 months of hire.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Competency in operation of digital devices using data management and mapping software.<\/li>\n<li>Follow data collection and data entry protocols and to collect high quality biological data.<\/li>\n<li>Must communicate well with others.<\/li>\n<li>WDFW snorkel training and MOCC certification.<\/li>\n<li>Experience operating motorized watercraft in Puget Sound rivers.<\/li>\n<li>Experience snorkeling rivers for salmon observation and enumeration.<\/li>\n<li>Hook and line
