Terms like \u201ceco-anxiety\u201d and \u201cclimate grief\u201d have spread throughout activist circles as well as popular culture; meanwhile, a raft of academic studies now identifies climate change as a mental health crisis. This talk will outline the existential toll of environmental destruction on different groups \u2013 from scientists and activists to students and BIPOC communities. We will also discuss strategies for channeling dark emotions into collective action, and developing the agency and courage to stay engaged in the work ahead.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<td>October 12th, 2022<\/td>\n<td>11:30am-1:00pm<\/td>\n<td>TBD<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Food Justice and Climate Change Symposium<\/td>\n<td>\n<p>The\u00a0Political Economy, Global Studies &amp; Environmental Justice (PEGSEJ)\u00a0and the Food and Agriculture Paths of Study are collaborating with many partners on a two-day symposium that uses\u00a0as a central theme Arundhati Roy\u2019s phrase, \u201cThe Pandemic as Portal&#8221; as a lens to analyze contemporary political economy with a focus on the food system.\u00a0The last few years have opened our eyes wider to the ways in which food \u201cisn\u2019t just food,\u201d but is intertwined within larger issues like immigration, labor, health, globalization, environmentalism, Indigenous sovereignty, racial justice and more.\u00a0The\u00a0pandemic has, for some people, served as a portal, exposing inequities and injustices, laying bare the\u00a0bankruptcy of the neoliberal vision.\u00a0Historically, times of crisis served as opportunities for deep social transformation, such as cooperative movements that arose out of the ashes of civil war, industrial strife, and enslavement.\u00a0We will create space for the Evergreen community and the public to come together to learn about and discuss these important pressing contemporary issues.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td>October 19-20th, 2022<\/td>\n<td>All day<\/td>\n<td>TBD<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Native Cases Conference<\/td>\n<td>Climate-focused conference focused on Native Nations and Indigenous climate leadership and education.
