Program coordinators work collaboratively with all program partners, to advance SPP\u2019s mission and vision:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mission<\/strong>: We empower sustainable change by bringing nature, science, and environmental education into prisons.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vision: <\/strong>In response to the dual crises of ecological degradation and mass incarceration, we aim to reduce recidivism while improving human well-being and ecosystem health. SPP brings together incarcerated individuals, scientists, corrections staff, students, and program partners to promote education, conserve biodiversity, practice sustainability, and help build healthy communities. Together, we reduce the environmental, economic, and human costs of prisons.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>REQUIRED\u00a0QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Currently enrolled in an Evergreen graduate program<\/li>\n<li>Available to work 20 hours a week, during office hours Monday-Friday (some hours may be flexible). Willingness to work on occasion weekends as needed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Subject-matter and technical expertise are desirable, but can be taught on the job and are <em>not<\/em> required<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Excellent social and communication skills are <u>essential<\/u>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Current driver\u2019s license and available and reliable vehicle for trips to prisons in western Washington (mileage will be reimbursed)<\/li>\n<li>Willingness and ability to work safely in a correctional setting and to communicate and collaborate with Corrections staff and supervisors to address concerns and respond to requests; employment contingent on successful Correction\u2019s security clearance (so program access is possible!)<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to work in a team setting, collaborate on projects, give, and hear feedback and ability to follow directions<\/li>\n<li>This position will include in-prison site visits as it is safe to do so. The\u00a0Coordinator\u00a0must be willing to follow all COVID protocols\u00a0created by SPP and WA Corrections\u00a0to reduce potential spread of the virus.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>PROGRAM DESCRIPTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This position integrates two of SPP\u2019s conservation programs\u00a0into\u00a0one position\u00a0with a common goal. The position\u00a0assists in the coordination of the captive rearing of Taylor\u2019s checkerspot\u00a0butterflies at Mission Creek Corrections Center\u00a0for Women (MCCCW) in Belfair, WA and coordinates the production of seed for prairie restoration at Washington Corrections Center\u00a0(WCC) in Shelton, WA.\u00a0This is a unique opportunity to participate in\u00a0vital habitat\u00a0and endangered species\u00a0recovery.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Since 2012,\u00a0SPP partners\u00a0have\u00a0operated\u00a0the Taylor\u2019s Checkerspot Captive Rearing\u00a0program\u00a0at MCCCW.\u00a0Following approved protocols, incarcerated technicians\u00a0receive education and training to nurture\u00a0butterflies\u00a0through each life stage\u00a0to assist in the recovery of this federally endangered species.\u00a0The\u00a0captive rearing program\u00a0supports broader\u00a0butterfly\u00a0recovery efforts led by Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW)\u00a0and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.\u00a0SPP seeks a qualified candidate to\u00a0collaborate\u00a0with the current Butterfly Program Coordinator to\u00a0maintain a high-quality\u00a0butterfly\u00a0education and training\u00a0program.\u00a0The position will\u00a0also\u00a0have responsibility\u00a0for data tracking.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The conservation nursery\u00a0coordinator\u00a0supports\u00a0Evergreen,\u00a0WA Corrections,\u00a0and conservation partners to\u00a0operate education and training programs\u00a0cultivating\u00a0native\u00a0plant materials for restoration projects.\u00a0The\u00a0WCC seed nursery\u00a0focuses\u00a0on\u00a0plants\u00a0that are challenging\u00a0to\u00a0cultivate; the seed produced is\u00a0used\u00a0for restoration\u00a0in\u00a0upland prairie habitat.\u00a0An incarcerated technician crew, WA\u00a0Corrections staff liaison, and the SPP Conservation Nursery Coordinator staff the program\u00a0with\u00a0supervision\u00a0provided by\u00a0SPP\u2019s Conservation Nursery Manager.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The primary responsibilities of all SPP program coordinators are monitoring\u00a0and safeguarding program health,\u00a0contributing\u00a0to\u00a0team\u00a0building,\u00a0advancing\u00a0SPP\u00a0organization goals, and\u00a0cultivating and maintaining\u00a0positive relationships with program partners.\u00a0New hires will be responsible for learning subject-matter expertise\u00a0and\u00a0will be\u00a0supported with training.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>ACCOUNTABILITY AND TEAM PARTICIPATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monitor and safeguard overall health of the programs; participate in ongoing program improvement and problem solving.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Follow all WADOC (Department of Corrections) regulations for\u00a0required training,\u00a0clearances; including visitors, chemicals, supplies\/equipment, media, and interactions with incarcerated participants.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Activelyparticipate\u00a0in\u00a0promoting\u00a0the\u00a0staff\u00a0team\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0organization\u00a0as\u00a0a\u00a0whole,\u00a0including:\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Participating in team meetings.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Creating and collaborating on outreach and dissemination materials.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Supporting\u00a0relevant\u00a0opportunities for inter-program enhancements.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Presenting on SPP to varied audiences in multiple venues.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Basic administrative tasks such as: print and copy materials, order supplies, and scheduling, meetings, developing agendas, taking notes, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Engage with SPP supervisor, incarcerated technicians, and partners to learn\u00a0program protocols, procedures,and tracking systems\u00a0as needed.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Communication and Tracking<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cultivate positive relationships and maintain effective communication with\u00a0<strong><em>all<\/em><\/strong>partners and supervisors including\u00a0regular status updates,\u00a0work plans, and schedule.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Actively participate in regular communication with\u00a0supervisor and peer coordinators\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Provide\u00a0updates\u00a0weekly\u00a0to\u00a0supervisor and\u00a0every\u00a0two\u00a0weeks\u00a0at\u00a0SPP-Evergreen\u00a0staff\u00a0meetings.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Maintain\u00a0task lists, calendar, and program tracking data both technical and educational<\/li>\n<li>Provide reports detailing accomplishments and progress as required by\u00a0partners.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Reference and update program\u00a0procedures and\u00a0protocols.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Write\u00a0web and social media\u00a0content about events and accomplishments.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Develop and update outreach, training, education, and support materials for program participants<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Butterfly Program\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work in partnership with the Butterfly Program Coordinator to determine the most efficient way to share tasks and manage time; serve as back up for facility visits<u>.<\/u><\/li>\n<li>Effectively\u00a0address\u00a0project issues and\u00a0communicate\u00a0progress\u00a0with\u00a0all partners including incarcerated technicians, WA Corrections, WDFW,\u00a0Oregon,\u00a0and\u00a0SPP\u00a0staff.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Support\u00a0data\u00a0entry and tracking for reports.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Support program supply purchases.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate with SPP staff, incarcerated technicians, and other partners to develop and steward butterfly\u00a0education and training materials.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Edit program documents and communications.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Track certificates, reflective writing assignments, education and training provided, and technician hours.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Support\u00a0new technicians\u00a0during\u00a0on boarding\u00a0and exit\u00a0processes\u00a0(entering metadata, new hire paperwork packet, providing procedure and protocol documents,\u00a0reentry packets,\u00a0etc.)\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conservation Nursery\u00a0Program\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Participate in nursery operations on site twice a\u00a0month\u00a0to\u00a0assess program needs, check in with program partners, and\u00a0ensure\u00a0overall\u00a0program success\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate a professional, positive attitude and strong work ethic\u00a0to all participants\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Oversee the training\u00a0and education\u00a0for\u00a0all\u00a0nursery\u00a0technicians through workshops and seminars\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Track and record all sowing, stratification, and cultivation protocols\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Identify pest and disease issues;
