The Deputy Director will spearhead fundraising efforts as MVCC continues to grow and build strong collaborative partnerships in the community. This individual will assist the Executive Director with all activities as needed, including board support, organizational strategic planning, staffing, development and communications.\u00a0 This position requires a deep and demonstrated commitment to the values of the Methow Valley Citizens Council. Energy, self-motivation and the ability to work both individually and as a team player are vital. The Deputy Director reports to the Executive Director and will have some responsibility for supervising other staff.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the Methow Valley Citizens Council (MVCC)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Methow Valley Citizens Council has a distinguished history of advocating for progressive land use and environmental values in the Methow Valley and Okanogan County since 1976. We launched a tradition of citizen activism which is alive and well today in this uniquely beautiful part of Washington State. The healthy rural character of the Methow Valley, with low density development, considerable open space, clean air and water, has been preserved in significant part through our advocacy on land use planning, air quality, water quality and many other issues over the past 45 years. Today, the Citizens Council is the region\u2019s \u201cgo-to\u201d advocacy group on a variety of topics that affect the character of the region &#8211; from public land issues like a potential copper mine to protecting our shorelines and water resources through land use<br \/>planning.<\/p>\n<p>Our organization\u2019s core values are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>MVCC empowers a community voice: Engaging citizens and tenaciously advocating for a shared vision of place<\/li>\n<li>MVCC recognizes the importance of maintaining the integrity and interdependence of natural systems. Oversee the success of MVCC\u2019s strategic plan and support program staff<\/em><br \/>\u2022 Work with the Board of Directors and Executive Director to carry out MVCC\u2019s long range<br \/>and annual plans and ensure their ongoing evaluation.<br \/>\u2022 Evaluate ideas for new programs and organizational direction and recommend<br \/>appropriate action.<br \/>\u2022 Mentor and support staff in programs, communications, outreach, and operations to<br \/>ensure they have what they need to succeed. Help staff with projects as needed.<br \/>\u2022 Assist the General Manager in developing MVCC&#8217;s approach to human resources &#8211;<br \/>including, compensation and benefits, performance evaluation, training, recruiting and<br \/>professional development.<br \/>\u2022 Handle the responsibilities of the Executive Director when she is away.<br \/>\u2022 Represent MVCC at public events as necessary.<\/p>\n<p><br \/><em>2. Develop and implement robust fundraising strategies and systems<\/em><br \/>\u2022 Collaborate with the Board of Directors and Executive Director to create a fundraising<br \/>plan which increases revenues to support our mission and community goals.<br \/>Develop and manage the annual fundraising budget; evaluate fundraising activities to<br \/>ensure that goals are achieved.<br \/>\u2022 Grow our major gifts and planned giving programs including identification, cultivation<br \/>and solicitation of donors which reflect the diversity of our region.<br \/>\u2022 Work with the Engagement Coordinator to execute a plan for membership expansion<br \/>and retention, with an emphasis on youth outreach.<br \/>\u2022 Identify grant opportunities and coordinate grant writing with the other staff.<br \/>\u2022 Oversee special fundraising and friend-raising events.<br \/>\u2022 Monitor trends in our community and region and adapt fundraising strategies as<br \/>necessary.<br \/><br \/><em>3. Promote the Methow Valley Citizens Council and Support Other Community Efforts and<\/em><br \/><em>Organizations<\/em><br \/>\u2022 Work in concert with the Communications Manager to develop a comprehensive<br \/>communication plan for MVCC to educate the public, elevate our visibility and generate<br \/>financial support.<br \/>\u2022 Coordinate the design, printing and distribution of marketing and communication<br \/>materials for development efforts.<br \/>\u2022 Build relationships with community stakeholders to advance MVCC\u2019s program and<br \/>fundraising goals.<br \/>\u2022 Support other community organizations with compatible goals to advance a<br \/>collaborative approach to public education and fundraising<\/p>\n<p><strong>Core Competencies<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Director should demonstrate competence in the following areas:<br \/><br \/>\u2022 Creativity: Innovate to build MVCC\u2019s mission success and organizational well-being.<br \/>\u2022 Ethical Behavior: Model behavior in keeping with MVCC\u2019s value and culture.<br \/>\u2022 Relationship Building: Be out in the community and sustain positive working<br \/>relationships.<br \/>\u2022 Communication Skills: Speak, listen and write with a positive attitude. Show concern for<br \/>people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence and a sense of humor<br \/>and gratitude.<br \/>\u2022 Teamwork: Set goals cooperatively, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance<br \/>MVCC\u2019s effectiveness.<br \/>\u2022 Leadership: Motivate staff, board members and other volunteers to achieve results.<br \/>\u2022 Decision-making: Assess situations and make clear and timely decisions, acting<br \/>confidently with minimal supervision within the scope of authority.<br \/>\u2022 Organizational Skills: Exhibit \u201cfollow through\u201d on tasks and goals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Qualifications<br \/><\/strong><br \/>\u2022 Familiarity with and demonstrated passion for the values of the Methow Valley<br \/>Citizens Council<br \/>\u2022 Bachelor\u2019s degree (Relevant experience can be substituted for education<br \/>requirements)<br \/>\u2022 Proven project management skills<br \/>\u2022 Working understanding of Microsoft Office 365 and social media tools<br \/>\u2022 Sound computer skills including word processing and database management<br \/>\u2022 Confidence in raising funds and communicating with major donors<br \/>\u2022 5 years minimum experience in a leadership position in the field of conservation<br \/>advocacy including program development and fundraising, or equivalent skills and<br \/>experience with a proven track record of success<br \/>\u2022 Previous supervisory experience preferred.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hours and Work Environment<br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 This position is close to full-time, with a preference for 32 hours\/week. Pay is<br \/>negotiable depending on experience, and starts at $60,000 FTE, depending on<br \/>experience. Exact hours of work are flexible and<br \/>negotiable.<br \/>\u2022 MVCC is a family friendly and pet friendly workplace.<br \/>\u2022 The main place of work is the MVCC office in Twisp, with some remote work<br \/>allowed.
